Fred "Rerun" Berry from What's Happening Passed Away

I thought tv buffs would want to know this.

Fred "Rerun" Berry Dead
Wed Oct 22, 6:25 PM ET

By Joal Ryan

Fred Berry was well into his 20s when he was cast as a high schooler on the 1970s sitcom What's Happening!! Well into middle age, he was still playing the role.

Berry, who portrayed the beret-wearing, suspender-clad teen known as Rerun on the 1976-79 series and was rarely without his signature accessories during the nearly quarter-century since, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment Tuesday, E! has learned. He was 52.

Berry's agent, Arlene Thorton, says the actor died in his bed sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning. The Los Angeles coroner is planning to perform an autopsy to determine cause of death. There were no signs of foul play, Thorton said.

Berry's pastor told Alabama's Huntsville Times that the diabetes-afflicted TV star suffered a stroke prior to their last visit in August.

Berry recently cameoed in the David Spade comedy Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star and looked for love on E!'s Star Dates. According to IMDb.com, Berry was a veteran groom, marrying six times to four women.

He played himself in an episode of NBC's Scrubs last April. Per usual, he wore the Rerun red beret and the Rerun red suspenders.

Until recently, Berry had been one of the on-demand telephone friends for the new service HollywoodIsCalling.com.

"I bet you that I've made more calls than anyone on this service," Berry told the Washington Post in August.

Never able to shake the role that made him famous, Berry reprised his Rerun self in 1985-86 for the updated What's Happening!! series, What's Happening Now!
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

Shirley died? That girl tore me up! I mean, sucks to lose Rerun, but Shirley Hemphill died? Damn. What's this world coming to when 70's sitcoms are losing their chances at a decent "where are they now" reunions. John Ritter, and now Rerun.

Malph, watch out.

Teah. Shirley died two or three years ago, I believe. Mabel King has also passed on.

It was a horrible thing to wake up and hear this morning. But at least he doesn't have to be ~Re-Run~ in heaven. :sob:

Didn't Ms. King pass awhile ago? I remember seeing her in the Wiz and when I asked about her I was told "Oh she died years ago", is this true anyone know?

Oh, man. This is unbelieveable. To tell the truth though, I was a Dwayne fan. I thought he had more memorable lines. But Nevertheless, I liked Rerun too. I'll never forget that "Rerun dance". It pre-dated breakdancing by, like, 5 years or so.

Rest in Peace, Rerun.

Shirley Hemphill and Mable King both passed away in 1999--within a month or two of one another, I think.

Fred "Rerun" Berry rocked. He was a cool guy and was excellent on that show.

I always thought Mabel King died years ago and that's why didn't see her on the show. I really don't know the history but loved that show. It was on like at 5 in the morning and I would try to get up early to watch it. Sick, huh? I saw a commerical for the first season on video but think it was only avaiable from TimeLife. Hopefully, and sadly, the show will become available in stores soon.
