I Just Listened To Me'Shell Ndegeocello's New Album...

...and it is easily the best thing I've heard all year. In fact, dare I say it, it may be her best album ever.

This album is exactly what I was expecting 'Cookie' to be. Not that I wasn't diggin' 'Cookie', because I most definitely was. But this album is just off the chain. She hasn't covered this much ground muscially since 'Peace Beyond Passion'. There simply is not a weak cut on the album.

With this release, I think she's become the most important artist in music today.

If you pre-order 'Comfort Woman' from Amazon.com you will have access to listen to the album from your Amazon.com Digital Library. It's an incentive to get folks to order early. Of course the tracks then end up in your temporary internet file. music

Nobody ever promised peace on earth. Just wonderful music, and to that end Me'Shell has more than delivered. Certainly she's been more consistent than this site's namesake over the last 10 years or so. 'Peace Beyond Passion' and 'Bitter' were excellent albums that received about as much critical praise as humanly possible.

I'm not quite sure what you've been expecting.

Peace was my fave, then Plantation... Bitter, while awesome in spots, got to be too slow, too laid back for such a powerful writer/performer... "God Fear and Money" was my fave track off that wrecka.

So is it more FUNK? or more Snooze-soul?

I don't know what they were expecting either. She has more than delivered. I've seen her live 3 times and she is the bomb, no matter what music she's making.

Only have one CD by her (not EVEN gonna attempt to spell her name correctly..lol), but I love it, and it's not even supposed to be close to her best...

I want to pick up Me'Shell's newest, and TTD's as well... nod

Aaaagh.. I'm pissed.. where is Quentin Mack? I know it was a Cookie outtake, but I want it! fit And she does a MUCH better version Live of Fellowship (Forgiveness & Love).. but I like it. It is a mellow Cookie I would say. It will get heavy rotation. nod

I'm loving it!

I still say Peace Beyong Passion is her best, but this one, along with Bitter, is easily among her top three.

My only apprehension is that I'd like Meshell to experiment with consistently broader lyrics in her love songs. She'll hit us with something as evocative as "Come smoke my herb; make your heart like the ocean; mind like the clear, blue sky," then we get all the typical "let me feel you," "I love you," "I adore you" redundancy. She's a FAR better poetess than that, I think.

You need to listen to COOKIE. All the lyrics on there are amazing.. esp. "But your world is so FUCKED, there are no angels left to comfort me" omg Go meshell! Then the guitar solo kicks in.. damn I love that album. She doesn't have a bad album. People may not like bitter, but it's just ultra mellow. Listen to the song Beautiful.. simple but amazing.

Y'all got me wondering where I rank this one...

I think Cookie might be her best, then Bitter, then Comfort Woman, then Plantation Lullabies, then Peace Beyond Passion.

BUT w/ some more play, I could flip Bitter & Comfort Woman in a few days lol

Who cares really, ALL her shit is amazing IMO heart
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Yes, the song you describe, Jibril, is amazing! It is one of my favorites on Cookie.

Her best bass playing is on her debut album. Since then, her focus has varied from album to album.

yeah, i saw her on 'standing on the shadows of motown' and she's singing in the rehearsal...and she was pretty much USELESS! she seemed like she thought she was so cool, too.

eh...that 'hey faggot' song was alright, but that 'if that was your girlfriend' song, eh...i don't know, she doesn't do it for me. am i missing something?
