P.J. Harveys 'Stories from the City' CD is a stunner. Any other fans of hers in here.

You know the more i listen to artists like this the more hope i have for the music industry. I always wanted to see what PJ was about so bought this cd this week. All i can say is if you want to hear a female rocker with integrity, honesty and a great lyrical and musical ability then she is the one. Listening to this cd in my car made me want my crap journey into work last twice as long. Theres 13 tracks on here and all are focussed and equally strong. Standouts for me so far are Big Exit, 'the whores hustle...', Kamikaze', you said something and of couse 'this is love'.
I cant recommend this cd enough to you all. If there are any fans of hers here what else would you recommend?.

TRON

I am a hardcore PJ fanatic. I love almost everything she's ever done.

Get everything if you like this. It's all good. But I would start with "Rid Of Me" and "To Bring You My Love".

Nightcrawler

This album is fantastic. And Thom Yorke from Radiohead is on it, too!

bow PJ Harvey bow

Listen to Tron's advice. All of her albums are brilliant. "To Bring You My Love" is my personal favorite. So powerful it still gives me chills in places.

I'm glad you are enjoying her, javed!

"To Bring You My Love" is an absolute stunner, and "Rid Of Me" is pretty divine as well. I think both dwarf her most recent album by leaps and bounds. "Is This Desire" is an interesting, overlooked album of hers as well - not really one that will jump out at you, but very interesting all the same.

Don't have the aforementioned CD, but I love "Perfect Day Elise" from "Is This Desire?"

Don't get me started!!

I can't say enough about this album. It's absolutely fantastic! My favorite song off this album is Horses in My Dreams. This is why I love PJ Harvey so much. Her earlier work is full of angst and aggression, which I totally love, and then here she is doing a song like this.

This is the opening lyric “Horses in my dreams. Like waves, like the sea. They pull out of here. They pull they are free” at 1:18 you have the strokes of a guitar and piano playing simultaneously. I imagine each stroke as the gallops toward freedom. This song just kills me. It brings out so many emotions. I love this song to death!!

I have been with her since Rid of Me. For me it has been such a great journey watching her grow as an artist. She has mellowed out since her early days but she has not lost her edge. A lot of people were lost on the album "Is this Desire" but that one remains my favorite. Don't listen to anything negative that anyone has to say about this album. If you like Stories, chances are you'll love this one as well. I absolutely love the mixture of electronic and organic elements. There are so many amazing songs on that album.

My suggestion...get everything she's done. Don't expect the same vibe as Stories on the early albums. You won't recognize her by comparing the work she's doing now to the work she did in the past. I can't wait for whatever she does next.

The new Desert Sessions (by Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age) features her on a few songs and all I can say is wow. It made me want to go find everything she's ever done. I'll start with this album, thanks.

thanks for that 'Supafunky' , have to say that 'This mess we're in' is also incredible. I love the way , on some of the tracks, her voice has a slight echo that just adds that X factor .

Also, get her album with John Parrish "Dance Hall at Louse Point". That album is excellent too!
