Mad World aside, are Tears For Fears much cop?

Of course everyone knows Mad World, and I really adore that song, but does anyone recommend any of their other stuff?

Is Mad World as good as they get or are they worth looking into?

Always thought they were overrated myself.

Everything up to "Sowing The Seeds of Love" is pretty good - after that they took a nosedive, at least in my opinion. If there's a Greatest Hits that focuses on the first three albums, you'd probably enjoy most all of it. "Woman In Chains" is a fantastic song.

The Hurting is a masterpiece of the techno pop era

Probably one of my favourite bands. Their career was too short. They were very big in Europe for 7 years, and massive in America for 2.

Mad World is a great track, but not their best. If you want a flavour, download:

Mad World (world remix)
Pale Shelter (1999 recording)
Memories Fade
The Working Hour
I Believe (The soulful re-recording)
Sea Song
Woman In Chains
Ideas As Opiates
Jonny Panic and the bible of dreams
Laid So Low
Wino
Creep
Elemental
Listen
Everybody wants to rule the world (Urban mix)

Makes a good CD, even though it misses off a lot of hits.

Curt Smith is working on a solo album, which is available in demo form to download on his web site www.curtsmithzerodisc.com. Its VERY good, even if its a bit Radiohead. Also on the site are great tracks like "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" acoustic re-recording.

After 10 years, there is a new TFF album, called "Everyone Likes A Happy Ending" out in the new year. The single is out next month.

I'd recommend their first two albums, "The Hurting" and "Songs From The Big Chair".

Just about everything they've done is excellent. Including 'Raoul And The Kings Of Spain'.

But if I had to make a recommendation, I'd say 'Songs From The Big Chair' is a must have.
