Should I Buy LIVING COLOUR?

Ok don't hate on me but I have never really heard of Living Colour but I have been seeing their name pop up all over these message boards so...

What kind of band are they ?

If you like Living Colour you will like ... ?

What album should I start with ?

Help!

Get the latest COLLIDE-O-SCOPE and go from there. Then VIVID (remaster).

They are mostly rock. Very soulful, but hard rockin'. There are funk and some jazz touches more a on teh avnt-garde-side. HEavy Metal with ska & reggae touches too.

Lyrics tend towards the political & confrontational "Cult of Personality", absurdly cynical takes on love "Love Rears Its Ugly Head" and cool covers of rock & r&b standards. They are a great live attraction with enough material to do 2 hour shows.

If you know PFUNK, KING's X, 24-7 Spyz or FISHBONE, but they are starting to sound more like BAD BRAINS.

I think they were giving a free concert somewhere in NYC today.

I've seent them 3X (once at the very first Lollapalooza!) and I'm not even a fan (friends were)!

For a good overview of the body of their work, buy PRIDE. It contains all the hits from the other records, plus a few live tunes and coolio unreleased stuff.

I haven't heard Collideoscope. Can anyone put up some reviews?

IF YOU LIKE:
Fishbone, Bad Brains, 247-SPYZ, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Hendrix, Mothers Finest, Faith No More, Chili Peppers, Kravitz, or other mainstream Rock Funk bands.

They co-founded the Black Rock Coalition

But yea. Go to half.com and buy them all. Obviously, different albums strike folks differently; I LOVE Time's Up because it's probably got the most funky/metal combinations. Stain is more avant garde, and their first record is more mainstream/pop.
