Chaka Gives Her Peace About Lil' Divas This is an excerpt from Chaka's radio interview when she came 2 the Detroit's Jazz festival(I don't know the date). She spoke in love about Mary J, Faith, Lauryn, Jill Scott but thats what she said about Whitney & Mariah:
Q-The music world is going through alot of changes nowadays. Whats you're take on what's happening out there? Chaka-No need to explain the state of the music 2day, really. I mean its rather sad when you think about it, you're not going to be heard unless you're a pretty face with yo panties being dropped in every video. However, there'ree still afew who makes it easier 2 swollow. Q-Such as? Chaka-People like Jill Scott, she really took the music industry by a storm. Faith Evans has a beautiful voice that reminds me abit of Ella Fitsgerald. Mary J, ya know? I'm proud of the woman she became, there was a time when I wasn't fond of her at all but she def flipped the coin this time and omg Lauryn Hill, this young lady has a promising career, I love her poetic soul. Q-What do you think of this genaration's powerhouse divas such as Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston who walked in the routes of Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin & Gladys Knight? Chaka-They need to take care of themselves rather than turning their heads 2ward this person over here and that person over there whenever they get cussed in & out the door. And when I say take care of yoself, that means get in touch with the spirit, have a talk with god. You could go through bunch of therapy sessions but none of that will clean the dirty seeds in yo soul, god will do and when he does, you'll get healed 4 good. Everybody make bad judgments and I sho did alot of them, the bottom line is you just gotta get outta that experience with a lesson. Mariah is going through hell cuz she compromised her art just to sell records when she already have potintials enough to blow half of these young women who walk around with their chest all out thinking they outshine a church choir when they don't have the power to blow a candle. Whitney will get outta this mess and inspire everybody with her story, people are saying "She's a self-distruct, she ain't going nowhere". Everybody said the same damn crap about me when I was down & out, sniffin some white poweder and feeling sorry 4 myself. Both women will be ok, they may not groundbreak the record industrey like they used to but who carse of you could deliever? I don't sell that much but I got a solid fanbase and thats what time is it.

Chaka was here in Detroit over Labor Day weekend--Saturday, I think. I just saw her on T.V. on, of all things, HGTV (Home and Garden Television). She was on a show called "Rock Gardens" where several musicians/singers showcased their home gardens (the other musician/singers were Darius Rucker, Mickey Dolenz, Grace Slick and one of the guys from Blink). Her backyard is pretty serene with a funky twist.

Fo' real? Then what the hell is an A-grade diva exactly? Maddy? Janet? lol from Chaka's era(s) and for her type of music? Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Donna Summer. i like Chaka, but she's never had the combination of success, appeal and talent of these others, all converging to make her a diva. she had the attitude, but she's b-level if you ask me. same for Patti Labelle. they've got the ingredients that could have made a Diva (with a capital D), but it never went beyond a certain level for them.

Mainstream wise, success, records with banging' charts, sex appeal(Maybe) and chances,,,they're betta than her alright. Singing? LOL All I could say is they know betta than to sing with her!

If thats the case then I guess Britney Spears is the ULTIMATE DIVA of a certain type? possibly. not yet, i'd say. for my own personal definition, someone would have to be around for more than 10 years to even be considered a diva. which has been my problem with people like Mary J, Monica, Brandy, Britney, Christina, etc., being labelled "divas" before they'd even had a decade under their belt.

Oh, you mean because they weren't as big on the pop charts as the other three, and the pop chart validates a songstress. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

When is Warner Bros. gonna remaster the Rufus and Chaka Khan CDs?! Or maybe release a 2-CD retrospective or box set? I have the 1996 "Very Best Of" CD and it only contains a measly 10 tracks.Their rich catalog deserves better than that.

Shiiit, if they didn't bother to issue DECENT GHs CD. Why do you think that they'll remaster those CDs? They won't make such action unless she sell some big C-notes and we all know that Chaka is beyond the sales saga and all since she's an independent artist right now. Dave,,,you should walk down the bootleg route. Do u know that she did a non-released album in 96 called "Dare U To Love Me" and when fuckin' WB wasn't intrested(since its too "vintage Chaka" lol) they shelved it and afew songs saw the light in her GHs CD "Epiphany". Anyway, the bottom line is I personaly gave up on the idea of them label folks re-mastering her stuff.

Yeah,I am familiar with her unreleased album 'Dare You To Love Me',much of which which was recorded in 1995.It was supposed to be released in 1996,but Warners decided to release the 'Epiphany' greatest hits compilation instead.Chaka left Warners soon after, and the unreleased project continues to gather dust in the vaults.Chaka has mentioned that she may go back,re-record the best tracks and release them on an upcoming album someday. Here is the full tracklist for that unrleased album... CHAKA KHAN 'DARE YOU TO LOVE ME' CD (recorded in 1995,remains unreleased) "Don't Take Back The Loving" "It Ain't Easy Loving Me" "Never Miss The Water" "Love Me Still" "Pain" "Miles Blowin" "Dare You To Love Me" "Everywhere" "Let My Heart Go" "You And I Are One" "Whatever I Want" "A Dream I Had" "Power" "Every Little Thing" "Something Deep" "Your Love Is All I Know" There is also a track called "Superlife" recorded during these sessions, but I'm not sure if it was intended for the album. If I'm not mistaken, the song "Pain" features some Prince involvement. In any case,I want this album!!
