On Saturday I went to see Me'Shell N'Degeocello at Amoeba Records on Sunset in LA. She was there to promote her new album and the appearance had her putting on a live DJ set. A crowd gathered around the stage as she spun records. She started off with a song from her new album and then played various songs, most of which seemed to center on political messages. She played Prince's "Pop Life" which fit in extremely well with the political tone of some of the music she played.

Halfway through the set she grabbed the Mic and said that standing up on stage spinning records wasn't really her vibe and that she was going to spin her record from the top (play it all the way through vs. only playing 2 songs), do some shopping and mingle with the fans. With that I went up to her to have her sign 2 posters and 2 CD covers. She happily signed all that I had. I even had her sign my copy of Peace Beyond Passion using my Prince.org nickname "Supa"

For the first time I got to express my gratitude and thanks directly to one of my musical heroes and it was so gratifying. I told her how much her music meant to me and how much it enriched my life. I also thanked her for sharing her art and passion with us. She humbly thanked me and gave me a hug.

I really really respect her as an artist and as a person and it was so awesome to be able to express that to her directly.

And let me add that the album is tight! One song sounds very Prince inspired. I know Me'Shell fans won't be disappointed. The CD is only 39 minutes long. Kinda reminds you of those old Prince records. Short, sweet and right to the point.

i saw her this year at the Jazz Cafe in London where she dropped in the Police's 'Spirits In The Material World" in a reagge vibe and it was wicked. after the gig, i went up to her while she was chatting to a frind and i just touched her on the arm and said thank you.
she clapsed her hands as if in prayer and said your welcome before bowing to me. it happened very fast but i got to say thank you which is all i wanted to do.
new album is out next week in the Uk.

It is wonderful to be able to thank them in person. Not to really ask for anything, but to give something back.

Really, Supa, because for years I've known of your appreciation for Me'Shell...I've heard you express beautifully at P.org just how much her music---and she as an artist---means to you... And, I'm so glad for you to have had such a kind and yet another enjoyable experience with her...

It keeps on getting better, and it makes for me to appreciate her more so!...
