Basement Jaxx feat. Meshell Ndegeocello All this week on UK BBC Radio 1’s breakfast show they have been playing tracks from Basement Jaxx’s Kish Kash album (release date 20th October). This morning they played a track featuring Meshell Ndegeocello.
I’m sure suomynona already knows this, but it was PURE FUNK! I can’t even remember what the track was called I was so enamoured with it . It took over my brain . There is a quite obvious nod to Prince (I’m pretty sure one of the Basement Jaxx duo is a fan) when Meshell sings “You can dance if you want to” in an almost identical style to “All The Critics…” the bass sounds familiar in places to that Prince track too. The chorus was very Funkadelic. I’ve been searching for a tracklist on the web but for some reason cannot find one. I think I might have to buy this album for this one track. The funkiest thing I have heard in a while. EDIT: Found the tracklist. I still can't remember which Meshell track ws the one I heard but I think it was the first one listed. BTW the track with J.C. of N*sync is surprisingly good too. Good Luck (feat. Lisa Kekaula) Right Here's The Spot (feat. Meshell Ndegeocello) Benjilude Lucky Star (feat. Dizzee Rascal) Petrilude Supersonic (feat. Cotlyn Jackson) Plug It In (feat. J.C. Chasez) Cosmolude If Ever I Recover Cish Cash (feat. Siouxsie Sioux) Tonight (feat. Phoebe) Hot and Cold Living Room Feels Like Home (feat. Meshell Ndegeocello) [This message was edited Thu Oct 9 3:42:13 PDT 2003 by KeithyT] Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

The track is "Right Here's the Spot," and as far as I'm concerned it's the dance jam of the year (not that the competition is too thick). Very much Prince, but also very much in the vein of the faster, late P-Funk nods to disco ("Knee Deep" and "One Nation Under a Groove"). Fuzzed-out synth bass bloops, twinkley keyboard squiggles... yep, this is the missing track from Motor-Booty Affair.
I've been listening to the whole album for about a month now and it's really fantastic. You all can't wait, can you? ____________________________

Alright! I can't wait to ther the Jaxx's new joint. I love their last album, Rooty. One of the best house albums ever produced. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Oh, I also neglected to mention that during the bridge, Me'Shell name-checks "Delirious," so add to the Prince references from a duo already steeped in 'em. ____________________________
