Musiq Is Back With "Soulstar"

MUSIQ SOULCHILD DELIVERS 'SOULSTAR': Another Profound And Powerful Collection.

Musiq
(Sep. 29, 2003) Philadelphia ... Multi-platinum singer, master wordsmith, music maker Musiq Soulchild is about to unveil his latest creation, "Soulstar," set for release on Def Soul Records for December 2. Containing 15 must-hear songs, "Soulstar" continues Musiq's vision of using soul music to share experiences in love, monogamy, and life. He explores everything from the mundane to the extraordinary aspects of everyday living, from the melodic "Love Me" to the funked-up "Who Knows." He flows effortlessly from midtempo jams like "For The Night" and "Romancipation" to soul-shaking ballads. He even turns the Rolling Stone's classic "Miss You" into a Musiq experience. For Musiq, no matter the style, good music calls to the head and the heart.

Recorded in Philadelphia at the famed Home Cookin Studios, Musiq worked with his longtime collaborators-writing partner Carvin Hagin and producer Ivan Barias. A first single has yet to be selected and Musiq is busy in the studio putting the finishing touches on the album. Musiq will debut some of "Soulstar" at a listening session for the press on October 15 in New York City. "Working on this album, my third, has allowed me to express my feelings, emotions, hopes and dreams even more so that my first two-'Aijuswanaseing' and 'Juslisen," says Musiq. "I was able to open up and take my music to new and exciting places. It's a journey I want the listeners to enjoy."

In the tradition of Donny Hathaway, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Sly Stone, Musiq's soul sounds engages the senses-you not only hear them, you feel them. It's been this way since Musiq first caught music lovers' attention with his platinum-plus debut album, "Aijuswanaseing" in 2000. Taking all by surprise, Musiq's new musical flavor became more and more popular single by single. Despite being new to the scene, he was tapped to tour with soul divas Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. Then in 2002, Musiq released "Juslisen" and it debuted at the No.1 spot on Billboard's Album Chart. The CD included the hit singles "halfcrazy and "dontchange." He has also joined fellow soul singers Angie Stone, Amel Larrieux, Donnie and Aaries for Coca Cola's Nu Classic Soul print and television ad campaign for 2003. The recipient of a Billboard Music, BET and Soul Train Music Awards, Musiq has also earned nominations for both a Grammy and two NAACP Image Awards.

Now, with "Soulstar," Musiq continues to expand his musical scope. And once you enter into Musiq's world of soul, you won't want to leave.

So are any of his collaborations with Prince going to be on the album? I couldn't find any information from the two sites.

Essence

Eff a musiq, he is rendered pointless when you evolve enough to appreciate his un-dilluted muse, e.g. D'Angelo. Bilal or even Maxwell do the same. Tony Rich's latest LP etc etc etc.

Musiq's got some good stuff, especially "Time," which is an incredible song.

I really wanted to like this guy - on the surface, he seemed to be doing something original, and he's a cutie to boot.

On closer inspection, I found his stuff to be pretty boring, and I'd sooner listen to a trash truck emptying dumpsters than have to listen to him on that "It Ain't Over" disc one more time, oy...

Same here!

I just couldn't feel a damn thang whenever I hear him sing and thats enough 4 me to throw his CDs out. But he seems like a good-spirited brotha when he come across in his interviews.

Musiq is talented and all,but I find his music to be bland and boring. And I can only take his voice in small doses. My girfriend really liked his last CD and played it constantly, but I wasn't really impressed.
