BREAKING NEWS- Rufus beats Prince September 30, 2003. After having been number one on my top five favorite artist list for over 10 years, Prince has dropped to number two as of today. Prince is followed, at a distance, by Bjork, Nick Drake, and Beck. The former number two, Rufus Wainwright, has eased his way into slot number one with the help of his new CD--Want One.
This is by far the most amazing music I have listened to in my life. All three of his albums have overwhelmed me, but this one tricked me, at first, I was a little disappointed, and then, after three listens it made me ashamed of nearly every other CD I own. Perhaps I am a little drunk on wine, but I am convinced I felt the same way when I was sober. Oh,the Joy of Good Music. Are there any other Rufus Fans out there? That also like Prince?

BREAKING NEWS - I had pizza for dinner last night and it ranked #1 for my meals of the day. Grilled cheese for lunch is a distant second with toast for breakfast trailing in at third.

Iceblink: I'm a big Rufus fan.. .I absolutely love Want One . I wish it would have been the two disc set it was supposed to be. . .but hey, I'll wait to spring.
"Go or Go Ahead" is a pure orgasm and "14th Street" is bliss. Yep, love the album!

Absolutely love Rufus Wainwright!!! I don't have this album yet, but it's now top of the list.
Don't know if I'm ready to knock Prince off the podium for him just yet though... Will keep you posted once I listen to "Want One". Glad to know that someone else appreciates Rufus' work.

Rufus is so overrated!! I can't believe someone would put him over the likes of Prince, Nick Drake, Kevin Shields, Richard D James, Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk. Come on, the guy may be acceptable, but he ain't THAT good. Sorry All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

...and this from someone who lists cake and spiritualized as his favorites... Thats The Sea and Cake, not Cake. They lick ass!! And what do you have to say about spiritualized? They certainly are a cut above Rufus. All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

Rufus is all fine and well, and his new album is pretty pleasant to listen to...I just can't hear anything life-changing in it. More power to ya if you get that kinda vibe from it, I spose...!
As for Spiritualized, they're what I would consider a "second tier favorite" - I buy their new stuff as soon as it comes out, but their music isn't Desert Island Choice material to me. Prince and Bowie are still running neck-in-neck for my all-time rave fave, with Nick Cave, Johnny Cash and M. Gira from Swans in a three-way second place tie. ...what can I say, I like singer-songwriters. The Edit Comes Around [This message was edited Wed Oct 1 20:27:11 PDT 2003 by Anxiety]

i have to say, this new disc is really beautiful. i don't know that its his best effort but it made me smile and walk with my head a little higher this afternoon. yeah, i know it sounds goofy but, being new in chicago, i still get excited about being here at times. listening to this disc in my headset while going about my day...well, it just put me in a feel good mood. i looked up at the massive and beautiful buildings while these lush sounds enveloped my head and i felt so good about life! it made my day exciting.
ok, now that i've lost any shred of dignity, i'm going back to my homework.

Rufus is incredible..i finally got the new album and i LOVE it but so far hasn't made the impact Poses did. But just like w/ Poses it will require lots of listens to get.
But for me Rufus doesn't have enough of a catelogue to rank w/ my faves like Prince, Bowie, Tori, Eurythmics, etc

I just read the Rolling Stone interview w/ Rufus today (with Johnny Cash on the cover - FINALLY a RS cover that isn't embarrassing this year), and was saddened to hear that he fell into that whole messy club-drugs lifestyle, but happy to see he pulled himself out of it with more creativity than ever. He's one of the few who inspire me to actually sit down with the liner notes and actually re-read his lyrics to figure out just what exactly he's trying to say - it isn't that difficult, but it's a treat to read his words all the same. Still, I gotta say that Poses hit me much harder from the first listen on...maybe this new one will grow on me. Looking forward to Want Two!

I am so impressed with VIBRATE.
To have such a style updated to this era with the lyrics makes Mr Wainwright one of my new heroes... Jurgen! Call me, mate! We need to talk about monday

Marius de Vries's production is subtle.
I love the way the album at first listen tends to sound boring and then you find yourself humming the tunes ALL DAY.
