Remmeber her 1984 broadway introduction? where she portrayed a junkie and said "see I stay high, so I don't get mad"

I heard many great stuff about her pre-color purple broadway shows.

I also heard that Bette Davis(her idol) hated her ass till she saw one of her broadway shows.

Why'd Bette Davis hate her?..and why would Bette Davis even have known whom she was? got me curious lol. I vaguely remmeber Goldberg and Davis ..or Im trippin'

Bette hated everybody who is/was overrated. She hated Madonna and she hated Whoopie after the color purple thinking that people are blowing her up.

Check this out:

Whoopi: Little droppings throughout the fabric of the history of the movies. I want to be there in lots of different ways, just like the people who left their legacies for me. Bette Davis, that's who I would like to be as good as one day.

Dick Cavett: She may well have been our best screen actress. Did you ever get to meet her?

WG: Oh, yes. And she cursed me out. [both laugh]

Dick Cavett: Had you stepped on her foot?

WG: We were at this wild gathering in the very, very beginning of my career. Elizabeth Taylor had taken a liking to me and invited me to her birthday party. I walked in and everybody you could imagine was there. And I hear this voice going, "Madonna? What the fuck is a Madonna? And what the hell is a Whoopi Goldberg? She's in the business 10 minutes and she's a star? My ass!" [Cavett laughs] And I'm walking towards the voice. As I'm getting closer, I'm starting to realize that I don't like what I'm hearing, and I'm going to give whoever it is the eye, the Whoopi eye. And then I realize it's Bette Davis.

Dick Cavett: Ohhh!

WG: And she sees me and she goes, "Hello, Whoopi." I went, "Hello, Miss Davis." It was the best.

I love Whoopi but she just hasn't been that funny since her very first stand up special.

Around the world ... in 80 ... muhfuggin days... That was classic.

That was the shit that hooked me on Whoopi!

nobody hated her when she was funny or when she used her non-funny acting skills in good movies.

she hasn't tried either of these things in about 10 years.

It WAS bcuz she basically "does her own thing" like prince & madonna 4 example, and ppl had issues with her way of dressing as hollywood thought it was SLOPPY. She also had a few white husbands. I think she prefers white men. Anyway, shes arrogant, charges alot 4 her appearance in movies etc. She's quite intelligent. Her movies, where she is supposed 2 be funny arent that good, but in some of the "others" she was in, where the content was mainly serious, she can act quite well, IMO. I like her, and find her friendly on talk shows etc.
May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love. hug kisses

I didn't know she is hated - I'm tired of all the hatin - it doesn't make any sense at all - people need to come together and that means accepting everyone and loving everyone and sharing and helping and being positive and supportive toward everyone - finding our common ground - having fun in life. Give LOVE and Have Some Fun! BAM - that's it to me!

Now Whoopie - she is totally fabulous as far as I'm concerned. I love her in comedy and drama - she is a very down-to-earth for-real kinda person -- her autobiograpy is interesting, funny and real. "Jumpin Jack Flash" is one of my favorite movies - she is too totally entertaining in that film! She is gorgeous! She is a master of disguise. She can act anything and dress any way. I love her!

A lot of nonsense here. "Black" people don't hate anybody. They don't all think the same. While she's not one of my favorite actresses I respect Whoopi and have no problem with how she lives her life-- not that it matters what I think about it.

We are Americans first. The media might portray a typical American as "white" but we all know Americans are mixed with many things-- it's a melting-pot whether you like it or not. There's no law that says you have to marry somebody that looks like you do, so I say more power to her if she feels free to define her own role. Maybe she has issues, maybe she doesn't; that's her business. It sounds like she's got it more together than most of us.

Oh, and there is no "black" media. No institution is ever representative of an entire group.
