If Sony is releasing a Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits cd does this mean Sony is going be selling blank cds with MJ's picture on it? wink

Despite all of his travails with Sony Music, Michael Jackson still owes the label one more album, which he plans to deliver this fall as a greatest-hits disc. There will be one new song on it, though, and it looks like it'll be an R. Kelly track.

A premature press release, sent out by Sony Music U.K. and then retracted, revealed that a song written by Kelly called "One More Chance" was under consideration for the Jackson compilation, currently called Number Ones. According to a source close to the project, "One More Chance" was produced by both Kelly and Jackson, but it's still a matter of discussion whether it'll make the album.

Though the press release was retracted, the source said the information included in it was "close," save for the final track listing, since that has yet to be determined. Eighteen tracks were said to be featured, including "Thriller," "Beat It," "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Billie Jean," "Dirty Diana" and "Smooth Criminal."

Once the songs for the greatest-hits album are finalized, accompanying videos would also be compiled simultaneously in a DVD format, which may include "The Making of Thriller."

The U.K. press release gave a November 17 release date for Number Ones, but the source said it might not be released until next year.

OK, NOW I like Human Nature but back in the day I thought the song was cursed. But it's the ONLY song I like by MJ.

He's just gettin sony out of his hair, although i am looking forward to the new track, what excites me are the rumors of a new studio album- and invincible DID kick ass (sony can screw itself)-not many cd's sell 3million copies in the fist week with almost no promotion biggrin BTW i'm not opinionated or biased in any way wink (just ignore the screename right??) lol

edit-O,k, I'll try not to run things together next time i need to go to bed, my grammar's failing fast...

PEACE
Anna

P.S. i think the history album is awesome(not the greatest hits mind you- the album) there are some jammin beats on that baby!!

Instead of another hits compilation, why not release a multi-disc box set? Michael has been recording since 1970,surely he's recorded enough music to fill up a 4-CD box set.The first CD could feature Jackson Five material, and the remaining 3 CDs could concentrate on his solo albums.Add a bunch of outtakes and rarities and you would have a great set.

A decent two CD set of his best Sony material would do much better than that lame ass Number One album.

My choices:

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
Rock With You
Working Day And Night
Off The Wall
Billie Jean
Beat It
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
Human Nature
Thriller
I Just Can't Stop Loving You
Bad
The Way You Make Me Feel
Man In The Mirror
Smooth Criminal
Black Or White
Remember The Time
In The Closet
Who Is It
Will You Be There
Scream
Earth Song
They Don't Care About Us
Stranger In Moscow
Blood On The Dancefloor
You Rock My World
Butterflies
Whatever Happens
Unbreakable

eye've bought every Michael Jackson album 2 date but won't be getting this one. What a waste of money! Y would any1 want this when they've already got HIStory? This is exactly like that "Very Best of Prince" album that came out in 2001. U'd think he could at least bother 2 have more than 1 new song... if it was an album like Stevie Wonder's Musiquarium, with 2 discs and 4 new songs, eye'd consider it.

(eye'm starting 2 get used 2 this Prince-abbreviating stuff..)

I don't think Motown would license multiple tracks to Sony, and expensive box sets would only be bought by fans, and only hardcore ones willing to buy a large expensive product of material they already own. If HIStory hadn't ben released as a single disc in 2001, this #1s album would have more of a purpose for the caual buyer.

Kind of surprised that "Scream" didn't make the cut since they are including some songs that weren't number 1s ("Break of Dawn"...really?). Still looks ok. I thought "One More Chance" was still in question. Is this from a MJ fan site?

I believe that BREAK OF DAWN has been allowed because it was due to be the next single off the INVINCIBLE album, there is an excellent remix featuring EVE. MJ loved this song & thought it would be a big hit but Sony pulled it.

You're right it was Butterflies. I was able to find the promo 12 inch single with the Track Master remix featuring Eve when the remix came out.

Mike should have released an album of old Negro spirituals, just to see Sony's reaction.

Come to think of it, I bet that would have sold like hotcakes!

MJ should quit collaborating with the 'hot producer' of the day and just do his own thing. I hope his next project is more experimental and fresh.

Amen! Ever since he stopped working with Quincy,Michael just goes from one "hot" producer to the next. It's almost as if he just looks at the Billboard charts when deciding who to work with.I generally like much of his new music ('Invincible' has some great moments),but it would be nice if he could make a bold, challenging album for once.An album that doesn't sound like anything he's ever done before (remember when Madonna did 'Ray Of Light'?).

True. But Ray Of Light wasn't exclusively a new sound for Madonna. That style of music had already been around for some time.

Actually,it WAS a new sound for her.It doesn't sound anything like 'Erotica' or 'Bedtime Stories'.In 1997,when she recorded it,electronica/techno wasn't exactly a surefire Top 10 phenomenon, making it a risky album for her.In any case,it's a bolder album than 'History' or 'Invincible' and she gained alot of artistic credibility with it.

lol

Which is why I said it wasn't exclusively a new sound for Madonna. I know it was a new sound for her but it had already been popular on the underground dance scene for some time and she just applied it to her own work.
