Andre 3000 to play Jimmy Hendrix in new movie Outkast's Andre 3000 is in talks to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic directed by Allen and Albert Hughes ("Menace II Society," "American Pimp"). But first the rapper will star in an HBO movie coinciding with his group's just-released Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below, and then a film with Morgan J. Freeman ("Hurricane Streets") called "Love Hater." ...

I hope it's better than that last Hendrix movie. Maybe they'll throw in a little more about his childhood and the songwriting process.

He has actually moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles to perfect his acting skills and professionally take up the guitar and saxophone.

I read that Andre had a part in that Harrison Ford movie that came out awhile ago. Something 'Homicide'. What was his role? And was he any good?

Andre can definitely pull of the look. He's definitely someone to watch in terms of where he takes his career. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

why? cant they just get an ACTOR, a real actor to do it? doesnt hendrix deserve a real thespian to play him, rather than an artist? now people will just be going to say, oh look, thats andre from outkast!

How do you know Andre can't act? Maybe Andre is able to tap into the same emotional energy that drove Hendrix? What makes a "real thespian" any more likely to pull this off successfully? In the late 80s,there was alot of talk that Eddie Murphy would play Hendrix in a movie.I think Eddie really wanted to do this, but the project never materialized.Around 1988,there was a rumor that Prince was being considered for this role (his manager denied this). There is a benefit to having an artist portray Hendrix,as opposed to an actor. With a music-related movie like this, there will inevitably be a movie soundtrack, and the artist,in this case,Andre3000,can already sing, dance and perform,so that's a plus right there (an actor would have to be trained to do these things). However,in some cases,an actor could probably do a better overall job (Angela Bassett in "What's Love Got To Do With It"),it just depends on the project and who's involved.Personally,I think Andre would make a great Jimi Hendrix.

Yeah...I could see it now, Denzel Washington as Jimi Hendrix. Give me a break. chill with the cheap sarcasm. im just tired of seeing more rappers in high-profile roles than black actors with the training. and hello, there are drama schools with actors that can also sing, dance, perform and all the rest of it. thats what they go to these institutions for. hopefully someone here actually saw oliver stones film on the doors. it had this guy, van kilmer, acting as the rock star jim morrison. and you know what... he wasnt an artist. he was, whisper it, an actor. id take that anyday over some artist fucking up the portryal of artists, even if they idolise them. see: diana ross as billie holiday in lady sings the blues.

Denzel WOULD make a decent Jimi if he grew out the fro. That's my opinion. The challenge is to find a stoner/hippie actor that sounds like him talking. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

The "Jimi thang"was just done a few years ago. And for the record, actors usually DO make better ACTORS than singers/rappers/etc. If they are getting Dre 3000 to do the acting, they probably don't have a. much of a budget (which is cool; it never stopped them before) or b. haven't hired a casting director yet for the film. OR c. are big posters on Prince.org.

I would think that Denzel would be a little old for the part.To be fair tho , he looks great for his age and is brilliant in just about everything he does . "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

After this maybe he'll get a role in the biography of Dennis Rodman.

well i agree with everyone who said a real actor should play jimi. andre is a big jimi fan, and im sure he loves jimi to death but how would he like it if denzel suddenly decided to make an album? jimi's fans and his memory deserves the treatment and respect that say, oliver stone gave the doors. not saying that film was perfect, but it at least wasnt a low budget affair. hendrix deserves better.
