You think disliking rap is ignorant yet you applaud an ignorant idiot like 50 cent.

I love old school rap but, let's try and face reality old school rap is dead and the rap of today is a bunch of ignorant, bling bling negroes pulling African-Americans back to the minstrel era.

[color=blue:bf0851fc48:618fe35ad5]Disliking rap is a choice. Putting ALL rap into a box is IGNORANT. 50 Cent is ignorant; but I have the understanding that its all E-N-T-E-R-T-A-I-N-M-E-N-T - just like Prince is. None of these guys have degrees in virology or are discovering the cures for Cancer or AIDS, etc. They are ALL shit-talkers; Prince included. I just happen to be a member of the culture that does care what the "mainstream" thinks. Compartmentalization is nothing new to me. That's why many of "my kind" have the attitude of ALL music has violence because ALL MUSIC communicates human emotion. I think iits silly that some people arrogantly place themselves on a pedistal in judgement of an entire form of human expression embraced by an entire generation of people.
fro

black expression edit.

But it has not been embraced by an entire generation. Unless you have taken some poll on this and can provide the stats. I would say that plenty of people on this board can't fucking stand it. I don't like the rappers attitude. of "we do not need to play instrutments or come up with our own beats." We can just keep sampling and being ignorant

Their attitude sucks and their music sucks.

The music industry sure loves to see black folks acting ignorant but, I don't like it and I will not support it with my money. That is my choice and it does not make me arrogant or on some pedestal. It just means I choose not to polute my mind with B.S.

That's pretty dismissive, to speak that way about an entire genre. There's plenty of quality hiphop out there now as ever. Remember that most mainstream chart music has always been shit, in all decades and all genres. To write the entire artform off because of the latest bunch of morons in the top 10 is just idiotic.

As for your comment about instruments... that makes no sense whatsoever. Music doesn't write itself, and in the right hands drum machines, samplers and turntables are just as valid musical instruments as a guitar or piano. Sure there are always a handful of lazy fuckers who'll just lift an entire melody from an old song, but that applies to most production-line pop music on MTV nowadays also.

To dismiss hiphop because of the shit you see on MTV is kinda blindsighted if you ask me, but it's you that's missing out.

Thank you Ian for making the same point as I would have (only less abrasively). lol
Miss Richardson is out to lucnh if she thinks the recent generation HASN'T embraced rap & hip-hop. I don't need to take a poll. Rolling Stone, Billboard and R&R do that for mw. The entire industry banks multi-millions of dollars on hip hop. Some people like to pretend as their way of dealing. Oh well.

Once again you are speaking for an entire generation. Rolling Stone, Billboard and R&R don't speak for me or others who dislike what Hip-Hop has become. I don't have to pretend I don't like the Hip-Hop of today. That is my choice. You don't have to agree with me. It called agreeing to disagreed.

There is some decent Hip-Hop but the public does not get to hear any of it. You must search for decent Hip-Hop and as far as I am concerned their is not enough decent Hip-Hop to make a dent in the shitting stuff. I am writing the entire artform off because of what it has turned into.
You do not live in the USA and therefore you do understand the long history of the entertainment industry making black people look like buffons and minstrals. The sad thing is that some of these fools would act like idiots even if they were not getting paid.

As far as the music situations most rap does not contain decent music. It is mostly samples from some of other artist
and when do come of with there own music that sucks to.
These guys can't come up with just decent dance music.
Rap has really destroyed RnB and as an RnB fan this makes sad.

Ian,I'd be curious to know what hip-hop artists you listen to these days.Despite our differing views,I think we can all agree that there is some good stuff out there. But honestly,I just don't know what's "good" in hip-hop these days.Any artists you would recommend?
