Singer Robert Palmer dies

Singer Robert Palmer, 54, has died of a heart attack in Paris, his manager has said.
The British star is best known for his hits Addicted to Love, Some Guys Have All the Luck and Didn't Mean to Turn You On.

He had been in the French capital on a two-day break with partner Mary Ambrose, after recording a TV appearance in the UK.

His manager said he suffered the heart attack in the early hours of Friday morning.

Palmer was also a member of 1980s supergroup Power Station, which also included members of Duran Duran.

The Yorkshire-born singer had recently been on tour of Europe to promote his latest album Drive.

Wow! Another celebrity death??!!

Oh no ... I loved Robert Palmer. Only saw him once live (at the Carling Apollo Hammersmith, which was then called The Hammersmith Odeon). It was a disappointing live performance, technically ok but lacking enthusiasm from the audience, so he walked off at the end.

I still loved him though.

Riptide is personal to me ... the track is about someone torn between lovers.

Some of his earlier stuff was fantastic - Sneakin Sally Thru the Alley is one of my favourites.

And the work he did with the Power Station was inspiring.

His version of Mercy Mercy Me (Ecology) was creditable, and the hits he had also showed his immense talent. He was able to do something slightly offbeat with his music, which is reflected on most of his albums.

I'll miss him.

This is a great loss to music. This man was intelligent and understood what it was to be a performer.

He wrote a book on Blues that was great but the song "I didn't mean to turn you on" was brilliant.

Robert was the slickest blue-eyed soul man of the 80's.

The Power Station kicked so much ass although their time together was brief.

My favorite track by Robert was "Looking For Clues". It was upbeat, funky, and New Wave-ish.

I'll never forget that man in those videos with his back-up band beign some robotic supermodels.

He will be sadly missed. RIP, Robert.

the power station was so aweseome...and then robert palmer left the group at their peak before their big tour and then some singer dude came in and it wasn't the same--albeit i was partial to john and andy taylor at the time, robert totally made that group.

plus his solo stuff...such a shame...

Who would have thunk a square white guy could work out "I Didnt Mean To Turn You On"..successfully...

The irony is that the writer wrote extensively about blues, while the singer leapt to fame largely by copying American Soul styles in an, albeit, sexy Euro-trash way. The singer might be considered a "culture bandit" by some soul aficianados (at least until he got notice in the 80s with his videos).

Man just when the shock of John Ritter's death wore off, now Robert Palmer! I was introduced to his style first through the Power Station project, which was really good, especially "Bang A Gong," "Communication," and "Harvest for the World." Then I got his greatest hits vol1, and there are some gems as well. He just had a way of carrying himself...very classy. I did get to see him when Power Station reunited a few years ago and toured. Unfortunately he forgot most of the songs, so he had to look down alot at the lyrics. That wasn't really a good show, but just seeing them all together with John and Andy from Duran Duran and Tony Thompson from Chic still made . He definitely had a lot of admirers and fans crossing different genres and generations. He will definitely be missed. I'm listening to his music now on Musicmatch Jukebox.
