Even things that have been out forever like Norah Jones did better.

I just don't understand how he only debuted at #29 unless people didn't know it was coming out.

He has the momentum of last year's Heathen album and tour behind him.

Maybe the upcoming tour and tv appearances will help it become a slow burner.

And hopefully OutKast will come along next week and slay them all!

The only thing that explains Bubba Sprarxx is that it was sold for $6.99!, half the price of Bowie's regular CD! I really don't get this considering the fact that "Heathen" debuted in the top ten, didn't it? And "Heathen" was an amazing album so I would assume that people would be ready for more! I'm also pretty sure they coutned the special edition CDs as a different album, which might be a new idea that didn't exist when "Heathen" was released last year(not sure). How many copie did it sell in comparison to "Heathen" (in America)?

And WHEN was Bowie's last #1 hit?

Under Pressure? Let's Dance?

Just reminding you freaks that MTV/Clear pimps the flavor of the month, regardless WHO is good, WHO sold well in the past, and WHO will continue to sell records.

LIMP BizCRAP for Chrissakes. Come on. That should be a giveaway right there that Billboard is a tool of the Clear Man.

Bubba Sparxxx I could easily see why. Bowie is good and all, but it's not the 80s anymore. shrug

No, but it's not 2001 either. I thought he was a one hit wonder. Bowie's a legend.

I'm not surprised at all. Virtually no one knew about it. I bet it stays in the top 100 for 3, maybe 4 weeks.

I am. It's not like Annie had a big promotional campaign.

People like this should be able to sell based on their names alone.

No.29 ain't so bad. You have to remember that Bowie hasn't hit the top 20 in the US with one of his albums since Tonight in '84.

Heathen debuted at number 14.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Heathen did not have any hits, nor were any videos played.
  • "New Killer Star" hasn't been played much, if at all, on radio stations.
  • There has been very little promotion.
  • Number 29 isn't that bad, especially if it was a strong sales week.
  • Blondie's No Exit which was hailed for being the comeback album and had a hit single and video, debuted at number 18.
  • Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic debuted at number 18, despite a bit of hype beforehand.
  • Eurythmics' Peace debuted at number 25, despite being hailed as their comeback album.

Excellent! I meant to add that I wasn't sure about Heathen but since Tonight his peak positions are:

Never Let Me Down - no.34
Tin Machine - no.28
Tin Machine II - didn't make the top 100
Black Tie White Noise - no.39
Outside - no.21
Earthling - no.39
Hours... - no.47

True. But Bowie is held in much higher esteem these days than any of those artists you mentioned.

Bare has had jack shit for promotion either. It just seems weird to me.

I guess he is more of a cult artist in this country. He was only ever really mainstream for about 4 years.

I'll say THIS - the ONE commercial I saw for the wrecka made it look like a "Greatest Hits" album - showed all his old personas... which led me to believe it was just another Greatest Hits package - of which I'm not interested because I already have the good bowie records - INCLUDING Tin Machine.
