TRON said: No, but it's not 2001 either. I thought he was a one hit wonder. Bowie's a legend.
If that's the case, a lot of living legends would be on top-Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, etc. Sometimes they just don't connect with what's out today.

It debuted about where I expected it to.
Prior to the release, and even the week of it, the promotion was all in Europe. The US leg of the promotional tour only started toward the end of last week (the Today show) and early this week (Letterman on Monday and Carson last night). How would people know that it was out? There's no single at radio, I still haven't seen the video, even though it's purportedly on the VH1 playlist, and several of the reiews in the more widely-read publications (such as EW) were less than glowing. The better reviews have come since, but I'd say that #29 is about right for the amount of buzz and promotion (none) done in the US up to the point and the week of the release. Besides, Bowie hasn't sold well in the US since 1984.

that commercial was actually a commercial used to sell some bottled water in Europe. in the US, it's doubling as the commercial for the album.

TRON said: The Ying Yang Twins? Bubba Sparxxx? A Perfect Circle?
All these debuted ahead of David Bowie on the Billboard album chart. If it wasn't clear already, I'm now absolutely sure that the state of music has gone straight to hell. I used to say the same thing in the 80's and early 90's about P's chart position, but I'd recommend you relax and let history judge. It will always be kind to Bowie. You also ought to search NPR's site and find the Bowie interview on "Fresh Air." It was really good. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Don't sleep on Bubba Sparxxx's "Deliverance." If you don't like southern fried rap that's one thing, but his release has some of Timbaland's and Organized Noize's best production to date. Tim goes all out and the ON crew really rocks out with the guitar. Just because you say "Tin Machine" is good doesn't make it true. I heard it a few years back...awful! Just didn't get it.

Teenage Wildlife, Scream Like A Baby, Kingdom Come... they're lost on me. actually, i guess Reality is kind of like that too. i'm only half paying attention from The Loneliest Guy through Days.
