Andre 3000's Pink & Blue

This is one of the tightest grooves I have heard in sometime. From the opening scratches containing Aaliyah's Age Ain't Nothin' But a Number, to the subdued syncopated beat machine , intertwined with Andre's understated/impassioned/somewhat comical vocals/lyrics, to the close containing philly soul style strings is unbelievable. Andre's touch on this song makes one appreciate the power of simplistic rhythms and soul stirring melodies. Awe inspiring.

Very much so. The strings that end the song are the highlights.

Dig the song but it needed a dope beat to take it to the next level. I kept waiting and waiting but it never came. I pulled out some old break beat records and found one I thought worked well. Mixed it up and burned it. I think it works much better with a cool beat. Dre needs to think about a remix of this song to be released as a single.

as a single...i'm sure he'd need a little something extra. but i think it works great under the context of the album. his voice and that eerie synth drives it just as good for me anyway.

I like it but felt that the intro scratching of "Age Aint Nuthin but a Number" to be quite unnecessary, especially since it forces R. Kelly's name into the songwriting credits. barf

I thought the strings were so beautiful I checked to see if it was Clare Fieschere. Am I getting the name right? The person who arranged all the strings on UTCM and onward.

No, it wasn't Clare. I believe it was Charles Veal.

Andre 3000's falsetto is so much cooler than Pharrell's. "Pink & Blue" is a great cut. I love the opening, with its sonic sampling of Aaliyah's Age Ain't Nothing But A Number. I've always loved that song it's great to see it turntablized and incorporated into The Love Below. Impressive track from an impressive album.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing, but this whole album is so GD tight!!! If Dre3K's side doesn't make Prince wake the fuck up, nothing will. He got that shit down , fo' sho'!!

I dunno, would you really call that "turntablized"? It seems to be a sloppy scratch like the beginning of Prince's "America"--start and stop the turntable kind of thing.

Sorry, R. Kelly dont need to be making money off this record just 'cuz of Dre felt he needed to spell out what "Pink and Blue" was about.
.
barf on R. Kelly edit.
