Otan nailed it.

Outkast have been very refreshing faces in music. They build upon some existing thoughts and make them better as well as totally out of this world ideas

First off someone said put anyone in the studio with a keyboard and some midi files and they could do it. Yeah right.. First off try coming up with the beats which are extremely polyrhythmic and original. Second I mean the hooks in roses, rosa parks,BOB, I am sure everybody was humming those in their heads for years before they were released. Easy my ass.

Prince is on another level cause he a monster musician, however we should not belittle the accomplishments of outkast and dre specifically.

I hear more P-funk than Prince.. The moog lines and weird voices are more sir noise than Prince.

At a time when the champs (G.Clinton, JB, sly, and sometimes Prince) are no longer kicking ass let a young buck come in and shake things up.

ride on...
Music is the best...

let me clear up the "put any of us prince fans in a studio" point: it's a given that all of us (prince fans) have great taste in music..prince taught us to be open about all genres of music.just like a sponge we have absorbed many styles of music. if we had any musical talent and had access to a studio, that sponge(all of the good music that we have experienced)we have absorbed for so long would be let out in the studio...and that's all a3k has done..look at d'angelo or lenny kravitz...not saying that a3k is not talented (i think he is)but this isn't anything new!!!

It really does appear to be the Andre 3000 forum but I for one don't believe that he or anyone else is the heir to PRince's throne. It's just an exciting album that came out this week. There were quite a few Bowie threads leading up to this album coming out and his tour. We are a flavor of the week kind of forum. It will die down since I think Sting as a new album out that might get people interested.

3 things:

1. P has given us more than enough already. We're spoiled, and we want more, but if he never makes another record, the man is 45 yrs. old, he's in a different place, and so we should accept that. He can't be expected to "compete" with cats that are a generation or so younger than he.

2. Why does everyone latch onto a male artist as Prince's potential heir?

I have seen Prince's heir and HER name is ME'SHELL.

"I have seen the future of blankety blank, and her name is Meshell."

Next thing I know you'll end up being Meshell's manager, a la Landau/Springsteen.
biggrin

Hey! That's a Thought!

hmmm

Where do I sign, Nova? Can you put me on?

I'll see what I can do for ya. nod

That's why you're my [insert gender here]! wink

This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
