question 4 those who feel that andre 3000 is the heir to P's throne if andre 3000 is picking up where Prince left off..why does his stage show still suck???
i was watching him on bet and he still does not have any LIVE music...those 2 guitar players and the dj do not cut it for someone who is supposed to be the second coming minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

I don't think he's the "heir to Prince's throne" - I think he's well on his way to having his own thing going on, and Prince is clearly an influence that he's very adept at channeling. Andre is to Prince as Prince is to Jimi or Sly or James - doesn't mean anyone's one-upped or "replaced" anyone else.

i agree with you percent...maybe it's me but i am NOT getting on the bandwagon..it's waaay too early in the game to predict andre's greatness as an artist..if any of us (prince fans) had access to a studio and knew how to bang on a keyboard..any 1 of us would make the same album... minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

I agree that Andre 3000 is not exactly the heir to Prince's throne but he is creative and I think that he breaks the norms of hip-hop and pop music. That's always refreshing for me.

he is just a fresh spark. A spark that we wish Prince would have lit. Thats it, comparisons should stop ---------------------------------

I don't quite get the connection. I'm thinking, does A3T play his own instruments, or have a bunch of proteges, sing in falsetto? But I think jessy's response makes it a bit more clear to me.

3 things:
1. P has given us more than enough already. We're spoiled, and we want more, but if he never makes another record, the man is 45 yrs. old, he's in a different place, and so we should accept that. He can't be expected to "compete" with cats that are a generation or so younger than he. 2. Why does everyone latch onto a male artist as Prince's potential heir? I have seen Prince's heir and HER name is ME'SHELL. 3. Dre3K is creating a real niche with what he's doing. He, Big Boi, Common, Mos Def, De La et al. are a handful of hip-hop artists that have attempted to mature instead of remaining in arrested development (no pun intended). I am looking forward to his new stuff. Okay. I feel better. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

The same album? Really? Come on have you heard this album? It's a lot more than just banging on a keyboard or programming drum machines.

It's all about niche, baby. P has a niche and a lot of folks are trying to fill it. A lot of artists are trying to make adventurous soul-funk-rock music in a similar vein to Prince's 80's work. So P is just a personification of the type of music we like, at the end of the day. Good lord, kid, don't you know an allegory when you see it? Apparently, you don't know a thing about Orgers. Judging by your profile, many of them listen to more music than you do. Don't speak on what you don't know. If you think we're riding the short yellow bus, then why did you buy a ticket in the first place? Sure enough he draws a lot of his funk from Prince, but who doesn't nowadays??? When I listen to The Love Below, I also hear a lot of Maurice White in his singing (especially on "Prototype"), George Clinton, Sly Stone, The Beatles-just a lot of different people!!! I think he did an excellent job of taking bits and pieces from them and incorporating it into his own sound.

1. dre said he won't be touring to support 'the love below'. he will tour again, but only when he can decently play his instruments onstage.
2. dre is an artist. not the artist. or prince. stop comparing. prince is JUST an influence. don't overexaggerate. quit while you still can. 3. dre is the shit. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine

Far, I have heard that from other orgers, yet I went to see her last month and she was outstanding. Nobody compares to P in this orger's biased eyes, but Me'Shell musically looks as if she's ready to make high-quality music in the same Prince-like vein. I'll get off my Me'Shell kick for now, until "Comfort Woman" comes out. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Andre might be the heir to P's throne
And those who deny that use exactly the same arguments that others used when Prince came out with 1999 and Purple Rain: "that guy is OK, but he's no Jimi Hendrix. Look at his guitar playing, it is well below Jimi's" "he's not much more than a modern JB" "he's simply mixing existing styles, not creating anything really new" ... What these people miss is that there were in Prince's music, as there are in Andre's today, innovations in production and sound. Plus mixing existing styles can be done by anyone as you put it, but mising them to create your own is simply not accessible...except to guys like Prince and now Andre He still has a lot to prove though, he's young, but this cd is definitely a landmark album for any funk/hip hop fan and for anyone who loves black music in general.

You're missing the abstract point here. INSTRUMENTALLY, yeah, he's no prince. But on a risk-taking, out-of-the-box, outside the norm, pushing boundaries within a given genre, A3T is THA FRICKIN BOMB. Ain't NO other rapper out there (on A3T's level - major label, videos, etc) that's throwing around a million different styles and making fun and stuff. The man IS talented and IS willing to push the listener - like Prince USED to do. PRINCE don't even do that shit no mo. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

well, i am sure you are exagerrating, cause we all know it is as simple as that. andre is very talented and the love below is a great experiment, and a nice way to display his talents. he gives it up to p frequently as a major influence. though i am sure he appreciates the praise he is getting. he knows he is far from that level at this point in his career. the musical ideas he came up with for previous albums as well as the new are a nice indicator that he has some major production skills and is willing to take risks, and be daring. this is pretty much the only thing the media knows about prince for the most part. i don't take them seriously, because most don't realize that there is much more to prince than being a singer and producer. they forget or don't even know that on top of that he is an excellent and skilled musician, and performer as well.
