Bowie in at no.3

Just to let Bowie fans know, Reality entered the UK charts at no.3, one place behind Starsailor and one place ahead of Seal. This is Bowie's best first week position since Black Tie White Noise entered at no.1 in '93.

Very good. It'll be interesting to see how it places in the U.S.

My guess is somewhere between 5 and 15.

It should be #1. What else came out recently that even compares?

Without a video or much promotion, I wonder if many people even know it's out.

Yeah, but look how well Annie Lennox did.

Annie also toured beforehand. Bowie just had a one-off concert.

True. But he came off a hugely successful tour last year, had the theatre broadcast of his concert a few weeks ago, and has the momentum of "Heathen" behind him. I expect it to do quite well.

I think it will debut well like "Heathen" and drop off (again, like "Heathen"). Unfornately, there isn't much promotion (I don't have cable right now, but I highly doubt there is a video since there wasn't one for "Heathen") and there are other things out there this week that probably are shoe ins for number 1 (like DMX's "last" album).

Anxiety

I'm guessing Reality will debut on the US charts somewhere in the mid-20s, then drop off the charts. He just doesn't do as well over here, and the reviews of the new album have been polite at best (despite what you or I may think of it, of course). He might peek back into the charts when the tour hits the states, but even then, I'm sure the chart placing will be modest. At the end of the day, I guess it's just more important to like it or not, and not let the charts hold too much influence.

Exactly. And I'm starting to really like it.
