Oh,where do I begin? smile

I like TOO MANY songs from this great decade, and if I were to list every song,I'd be here all day long...lol...so,I'll just list about 20 or so (for now,anyway...lol).

***"Love Is Like Oxygen" by Sweet(1978)---the type of song that ELO would have killed for...lol...

***"Jet" by Paul McCartney and Wings(1973?)

***"Stayin Alive" by the Bee Gees (1977)

***"Fantasy" by Earth Wind and Fire (1977)---when I heard this song as kid,I was mesmerized by it.Sounds like you're flying in the clouds or something, the whole thing just soars higher and higher.

***"Lovely Day" by Bill Withers (1977)---Luther Vandross covered this song on his latest CD,with Busta Rhymes. Now I really love Luther, but this is one song that he should have left alone. The original is amazing.

***"Fool (If You Think It's Over)" by Chris Rea (1978)---hey,what can I say? I love those big adult contemporary ballads of the 70s...lol...

***"Summer" by War (1976)---I can't name any other song that paints such a vivid picture of summertime.

***"Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)" by Aretha Franklin (1974)---the general consensus is that Aretha sometimes lost her way in the 70s,aimlessly searching for direction.Of course,I don't agree with that narrow-minded view and this song perfectly demonstatrates that she knew exactly what she was doing. It's my favorite Aretha song.

***"Tired Of Being Alone" by Al Green (1971)---Soul music doesn't get more soulful than this!!

***"Moonlight Feels Right" by Starbuck (1976)

***"Last Dance" by Donna Summer (1978)---have you guys ever sat down and analyzed the lyrics to this song? The lyrics are sheer genuis..."I need you,by me,beside me,to guide me...to hold me,to scold me,cause when I'm bad I'm so so bad".Those lyrics are undeniably humorous, but Donna sings them as if her life depended on it...lol...she really, realy,REALLY wants that last dance!!

***"Grease" by Frankie Valli (1978)---the theme song was somewhat overshadowed by the tracks performed by the castmembers ("Summer Nights","You're The One That I Want",etc) but the title song is superb.Written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees,it's actually more disco than 50s'-sounding,but it's a kickass track, with the catchiest hook of the year..."the word is,the word is,the word is..."

***"Native New Yorker" by Odyssey (1978)---people often say that disco music from the 70s was shallow with mindless lyrics. This song proves otherwise.

***"My Sharona" by The Knack (1979)---a relentless, high-energy rock song that inspired Michael Jackson to come up with "Beat It" a few years later

***"You And Me" by Alice Cooper (1977)---when you think of Alice Cooper, you don't think of a mellow, beautiful ballad,do you? LOL...but this song is just that!

***"Miracles" by Starship (1975)---a hypnotic midtempo track that feels almost heavenly. On the album version, there is a reference to oral sex, which raised a few eyebrows (among other things) in 1975...lol...

***"Strange Magic" by ELO (1976)

***"Easy" by The Commodores (1977)

***"Stuff Like That" by Quincy Jones featuring Ashford and Simpson and Chaka Khan (1978)---"I knew I was captured by the rhythm of the magic flute".Damn, this song is STILL da jam!!! In the summer of '78,this song captivated many people. One lyric sums it all up..."It ain't how high you can go,but exactly how low".

***"The Groove Line" by Heatwave (1978)---Damn,I miss the days when we had jams like this!! sad

you can't do a 70s list without Stayin' Alive - it's simply one of the best songs ever. Leaving that off of a 70s list is like leaving When Doves Cry off of an 80s list.

Funny you should mention "When Doves Cry".I always considered Prince's song to be the "Stayin Alive" of the 80s...lol...both songs are the main songs a movie and both songs deal with life's everyday struggles, and both songs feature alot of falsetto ad libs near the end. There are also slight similarities between the two films, but that's another thread...lol

Did you know that Rick James was almost a member of P-Funk? He auditioned for Parliament/Funkadelic in the mid-70s,but George Clinton chose Skeet Curtis instead.
