Is Alicia Keys a One hit wonder ?

Y'all remember back in the days when Jamriqui first came out, and everybody got all excited about them, thinking they where going 2 be around 4ever, however. They could never really followed up on the same success, they had when the released Virtual Insanity (even though they released several album). I know y’all remember the group Arrested Development who had a lot of promise 4 their music career, but just didn’t find the success they had with the release of Tennessee. Now I’m beginning to wonder if Alicia Keys is following the same boat. It's been a couple of years since Alicia Keys released her debuted LP Songs in A minor. After releasing the song Falling, it seemed as if it was almost impossible to get away from hearing about the success of her first single. Despite the fact she did release the second single a Woman Works, it just didn’t compare to the first single that everybody was raving about. From now until then, if I put all my calculations into one, it seems as if Alicia Keys has all the main qualities of living in a One hit wonderland.

What do y’all think about this ??

I definately hope so. I never got what the big fucking deal was with her. I bought her album cuz I didn't want to be caught sleeping like I was with Jill and Erykah, gave it one listen and promptly gave it away.

What's that music biz maxim:

You've got your whole life to make your first album, and two years to make your second.

It's natural for second albums to be worse than the first, especially for artists that come from nowhere to be huge.

I think she's talented, but maybe let the hype get to her. She should stop thinking likes she's a big star - and forget the Hip Hop scene.

Alicia Keys' talent is overrated. The only reason the media was all over her is because she was the only pop-star that could play an instrument moderately well in a long time. She got a lot of useless respect here, because of HCYDCMA being on her album.

Jamiroquai on the other hand...

Virtual Insanity was NOT their first single, nor was it from their first album. It was just the first succesful one in the US. They have a big following in Europe and Australia, and their stuff gets regular rotation in the underground and club scenes. I have a few DJ friends, they all have several Jamiroquai records and remixes for rotation. I really wouldn't consider them one-hit wonders. I think they just play to a different scene than the mainstream pop audience.

Co-sign. I was diggin' Jamiroquai's 1st 2 LPs before "VI" and TWM dropped. I like their last two LPs as well. They are huge everywhere but here, but we're so self-involved from an entertainment standpoint that it seems as if Jamiroquai is a "one-hit" wonder.

I think it's highly probable. I got in a fight with my then-roommate when I suggested this exact theory back when "Fallin'" was out. I guess we sit back and wait.

The clock is ticking...

she's a 1.5 hit wonder.

the second single did fairly well.

the Prince cover, though... you know, it was then that i began to wonder if maybe Prince could never, ever, in a hundred years, interest the public again. i mean, someone super-popular at the time couldn't even get a hit with one of his songs.

She got Over Big time because She Jacked James Brown's "It's a Man's World" for "Fallin".She is Alright but having a Clive Davis in your Corner can make you seem like the 2nd-Coming.I give Him Props for working His Magic.Sony couldn't do mothing with Her so Clive Picked Her up&the rest as they say is History.I Heard the new track with Nas&Rakim "NY State of Mind"&they are gonna have to go back to the drawing board.cool Concept but Poor Execution IMHO.

technically i don't think she'd qualify as a one hit wonder cause she's had more than one hit.
she's not even finished up her second album yet, so i think it's way to immature to guess now

You know, I never thought about this prior, but you're right, Man's World and Fallin are very similarly structured. I don't think that's why it was a hit though, nor do I think it was intentional.

Good point.Jamiroquai is HUGE in Europe and other places outside the States.Too often,we act as if the US is the only country that matters.

Alicia is B A D!! she's got skills, style and is down to earth. i can't wait to hear what's next!

and Speech (A.D.) are still working it, for a more appreciative Japanese audience . . . + they had Everyday Poeple and Mr. Wendel. hardly one hit wonders . . .

Alicia Keys's version of 'How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore' is cool so I don't think she's a 1 hit wonder, she should cover more Prince songs!

I def don't think so, when you got Clive Davis backing yo ass up, you're on check!

Whitney started her solo career in the same period that Me'lisa Morgan & Miki Howard did. But they didn't have Clive backing 'em up there4 you only hear from Whiteny.

Same thang goes with Alicia!

One thang I hope she start doing, get in touch with her own idenity instead of trying to sound like Mary J & Roberta Flack.

Quit the fake ghetto act too, babe!

"A Woman's Worth" and "Gangsta Lovin'" with Eve were both hits. However, I wouldn't mind if she went underground.

well, well, its more like alicia losta'keys!!! i wouldnt buy any of her albums, unless it was instrumental...ima tuff' critic, SHE CAN NOT, i repeat SHE CAN NOT sing worth the salt you put in carlardgreens...BUT! she seems to be an excellent writter, and pianist.
and another thing, AMEN!!! to the person commenting on her "style" or whatever that is she does...i dont know how many times ive seen her in the issues of magazines for "when bad clothes happen to good people" or "worst dressed"...why is it when peeps get money they loose all sense of identity???why???(but i guess, shes having to "do" other major hits, like "how come you dont call..." to keep herself noticed and popular, these musicians today do it all the time"...I HATE THAT!!! i just view all those albums as if im saving money...
cha'ching!!!$$$"
