A complete copy of Prince

Has anyone here heard of Mr Funk? I came across his tunes on mp3.com and, at first, honestly thought that Prince was releasing free tunes onto mp3.com under an alias.

After a very concentrated listen I suspected it might not be him, but I was having great difficulty telling. He sounds exactly like Price doing his Camile business.

Take a look. The album cover on this page is clearly meant to look like someone we know, and all the references in his songs are properly blatant.

Either way, I e-mail this forgery and asked him whether he got off on impersonating someone else. Not surprisingly, I received a load of abuse from him in return.

I can hear the influence but I also hear Lenny Kravitz on the song America.

"Sexy as ya wanna be" is not his, it doesn't even soundthe same. I've heard it before attributed to Prince but it could easily be Ohio Players. Ripping people off completely, that's a new one. lol

Oh lawd. Now I'll have that "Pretty Bitch" song in my head ALL DAY! LOL! America - str8 Prince copy. Sexy As You Wanna Be - Ohio Players meet the Bar-Kays. Pretty Bitch was probably the most original (musically). Vocally, it sounds like Sonny T. on "Camille". This guy is a BIG Prince fan.
He's actually not THAT bad. I heard his "Kiss My Ass" song. He's blatantly unoriginal, but there are worse clones out there with record deals (i.e., Beck)

Hey, Lamont! Here's a name for your Prince clone list.

omg

I can't believe you put Beck on blast. Midnite Vultures was derivative, but still a good record. But have you even heard "Sea Change"?

And who do u like?

Didn't you defend Lenny a while back? If you're gonna call out clones, you need to put Lenny on FULL BLAST.

I'll GLADLY put Lenny's copycat ass on blast, but at least I can stand his voice. Beck SUCKS to me. I'm not saying he has no talent, I just dislike his material. Lenny copies others more than Prince. Prince never really did "hippie" music. Both of them are scarce in my collection. No Beck - Lenny - two CDs. They are on "download only" status with me, but Lenny gets a courtesy preview every CD because he occasionally hits on something nice. Beck has done NOTHING for me musically or vocally.

Fair enough. I've got 1 Lenny CD and two Beck CDs. I never dug Beck until Midnite Vultures. If Beck actually took himself seriously, I wouldn't like him either. He tries to be Prince-like, but with a self-deprecating sense of humor. I would highly recommend "Sea Change" though. It is a stripped-down, bare-emotion set that is really good.

I like Lenny personally, but he has yet to distinguish himself.

Me'Shell is the next Prince, tho. Folks need to recognize.
