Some post-Reality Bowie appreciation. What a man! What a back catalogue.
Heathen was divine... cannot wait for this new one! Although, why's he doing so many covers these days???

I read in a recent interview that he has always wanted to record a "Pin-Ups II", but realized his wish-list was far too long and decided instead to spread out the covers he wants to do over the space of his "regular" albums.

Sorry - I'm fairly new to Bowie, so I didn't know that.
I think the covers on Heathen let the affair down (except for Cactus).

Some of his covers are just glorious though. See:
Let's Spend The Night Together I'm Waiting For The Man Sorrow I Can't Explain Across The Universe Wild Is The Wind Kingdom Come Trying To Get To Heaven I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday I Feel Free Dancing In The Street (j/k of course) But mostly, his covers are very well done.

I think the covers on Heathen let the affair down (except for Cactus). well, there are only 2 others, and 1 is an obscure song that nobody'd ever heard of and might as well be his own. so, i guess 2.5 covers out of 12 tracks doesn't let it down too much.

Confirm please: as I understand it, after 'Pin-Ups' BowiE recorded another album of covers 4 'Pin-Ups2' but shelved it. True or false? I think I read it in the 'Loving The Alien' biography (that song has my fave BowiE lyrics EVER - especially light of all the recent/current troubles in the middle east etc...check em out *LOVE the new album - played it at work all this weekend Edit* [This message was edited Sun Sep 14 14:04:11 PDT 2003 by bananacologne]

It's entertaining, but takes an approach to the music that seems... well, a bit disinterested, bordering on disdain. It's much more interested in the tabloidy personal trials and tribulations thing. I've heard that "The Complete Guide To David Bowie" (I think that's the title) is the best, if you want info on the music. As for PinUps 2, I don't think it was ever confirmed as having actually been recorded. He has said at several points throughout his career that he wanted to do another covers album, but nothing's ever come of it. Unless you count "Toy" which is him covering himself.

i seem to remember that orignally Pinups II was going to be all American artists (as Pinups I was all British artists). He recorded Bruce Springsteen's "Growing Up" as the first track for that project, but it was eventually shelved for whatever reason. "Growing Up" i believe ended up as a B-Side and was released on the Rykodisc version of "Pinups".
But yeah, he's always done alot of covers. Many, if not most, of his albums have at least one cover, some have several.
