while there is a Prince Influence along with P-Funk,Hendrix&Sly in there, after hearing Andre's Album I Hear more Sugarfoot than anything else vocally.especially on "Prototype" which reminds me of Sugarfoot mixed with Charlie Wilson.I can hear alot of Sugarfoot in Andre's presentation singing wise.I liked His Album pretty good but it went on 7-8 tracks to long for me.He easily eclipses Big Boi's set but having said all of that they both need one another&this Album still doesn't quite match there Previous Albums to Me on a whole.

Are you referring to Sugerfoot from the Ohio Players?
yep the One&Only Sugarfoot.

Of course Dre reminds us of Prince. Everyone was influenced by him. But, the key point here is...people were comparing Prince to everyone else during his heyday.

I'm witnessing the generation gap. My mentor told me once that Prince has nothing on James Brown. Every generation has an artist that will push the evelope on what the mainstream listens to.

Pharrell really reminds me of Prince. His falsetto and key change in a few of his records reminds of Prince records. Yo, Missy came out with a record a few years back that sounded like Internaitonal Lover.

The sign of a true gangsta artist, is when they are studied academically. Prince is on his way and most likely has already been "studied" at the collegiate level. That is the true sign of what was and what will be.

At the end of the day...it's just music. And we are really riding this man's jock...

i agree with some of your points

yes, every generation has an artist who

pushes the envelope

however, i don't think prince will

be seen as a greater artist when

he is studied on a college level

he's already achieved greatness

also, he's studied pretty intensely

on this site and else where

example: read anji's threads

that's intense and intellegent conversations

regarding prince on many levels

you mention prince and james brown

aside from a few dance moves,

prince is a totaly different artist

prince once said the only reason

he is compared to artists like jimmy hendrix

is because they are both black

andre 3000 is black also but the prince

influence is clear

sory but pharrell does not deserve the prince comparisons at all. his falsetto is actually quite bad and always threatens to croak or break down and far too many of the neptunes productions sound TOO similar. the same type of riffs, rhythm tracks etc etc. prince was way more diverse. and missy's non singing-self isnt anywhere near - timbaland is the real star of her work.

I agree. Pharrell's falsetto sounds NOTHING like Prince's. If anything it sounds closer to Curtis's.

Dance Moves? When has Andre ever danced an entire show with pirouettes and splits, and hip thrusts?

His clothes are more reminiscent of Parliament/Funkadelic. When you did you see Andre with his ass cheeks hanging out, or wearing all kinda of shirts with french cuffs & ruffles, or boots with 3 inch heels on them?

His grooves...I'll give you influence, but P is just one of many.

You're putting way too much on the "biting" thing.

There is one thing that comes to mind about the neptunes. When artists chose tracks (which the duo do many of), much of the tracks that they pick are tracks that Chad and Pharell may not be partial to. Take Foxy or Angie MArtinez for example..the neptune tracks they used were garbage. But, management, A&R's, and the artists pick them and purchase them. If you happened to pick up an NERD album you will see that it is not all the same hip hop oriented beats. Of course no one will be at the same level as this man, but Pharrell openly accepts all music and pushes his audience to think outside the box.

Missy's Take Away record sounded like Int'nat'l Lover. Tim is behind the whole movement though, you are right.
And he's so cute...I want to kiss his cheeks

The Love Below just kicks ass, plain and simple. I mean, when you have Norah Jones on your CD then you're really creating something. But that's just one song of the many other greats.
NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

He's really not that terrible and actually sounds better when he's not straining to sing falsetto (like he did in "Frontin'").
