A lot of you have listed Prince And The Revolution: Purple Rain. Of course that one is on my list too - it was the album that got me seriously hooked on Prince (along with the Live Broadcast from Syracuse in '85.)

shhh Don't tell anyone, but I like Michael Jackson too. He has done some great tunes that I've danced my butt off to at parties. I've got his albums and occassionally listen to his funky stuff. I can't stand his syrupy ballads, though, which is why none of his albums are on my all-time favorites list. Only albums that I love from start to finish make my list.

shhh

Let's start with the three on my wall:

1. Sign O' The Times -- Prince: The greatest album of at least the last 20 years.

2. Talking Book -- Stevie Wonder: The perfect record.

3. Blowout Comb -- Digable Planets: Hip-hop's criminally neglected masterpiece.

and for the rest . . .

4. Purple Rain -- Prince: Made me a Prince fan for life. I played this record hundreds of times between 1984 and 1985 (when of course ATWIAD came out,and I proceeded to play THAT record hundreds of times b/w '85 and '86, and so on . . .)

5. Giant Steps -- John Coltrane

6. Genius of Modern Music Vol. II -- Thelonious Monk: My entry into true jazz fanhood.

7. Return of the Space Cowboy -- Jamiroquai

8. It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back -- Public Enemy: The greatest hip-hop album of all time.

9. Love Is Stronger Than Pride -- Sade

10. Parade -- Prince & The Revolution

11. A Decade of Steely Dan -- Steely Dan

12. Bitter -- Me'Shell Ndegeocello

13. Regatta D'Blanc -- The Police

14. A Charlie Brown Christmas -- Vince Guaraldi Trio

15. A Motown Christmas -- Various Artists

16. Jingle Bell Jazz -- Various (Columbia)

17. Songs of Freedom Vol. III -- Bob Marley

18. Al -- Al Green

19. Lovesexy -- Prince: One of the most inspiring Prince records ever.

So you did and so it is. But like I said at the start of this thread, it isn't about what is the best musical quality (as judged intellectually) as much as it is what means the most to you (as judged emotionally).

I like Kate Bush, particularly her older stuff, which I remember hearing on the radio and at friends' when I was younger, but I have yet to actually buy any of her albums (except for the one with Prince guesting on it).
disbelief I know, but I'll get around to catching up on her eventually, I'm sure.

That IS a very good album. In time, it just might end up on my list of all-time favorites as well.

music Baby when you have the time
I wanna tell you what is on my mind
I gotta get it off cause it's so heavy
After what we did the other night
I wanna be with you for all my life
I'm so glad you're a freak like me music

Not to mention:

headbang You are relating to a psychopath
Your role model is in therapy
You must be real far gone
you're relating to a psychpath headbang

GREAT lyrics. (And the music's good too.)
