for the love of the isleys... OK y'all here's a simple question:
which r & b group has been going for over 40 years and still keeps on ticking? answer: the isley borthers! yes okelly is gone and rudy's preaching the gospel. but ronnie and ernie are still doin' it ...taking us to the Next phase...so here's the main question: what's your favorite isley brothers tunes? this is gonna be a little poll question. i'm gonna see which 10 isley songs come out as the best the favorite isley tunes and post them when this thread ends. i'm curious which ones are everyone favorites. i'm still thinking about mine. youngca

The Isley Bros. rock! They've got so many classic cuts. My favorite is "Harvest For the World." I could play this song continuosly, like, forever!

Here are my favs...
***"Voyage To Atlantis"(1977)---it's a shame that young kids today are only familiar with their newer,R-Kelly-produced crap songs."Voyage To Atlantis" kills anything they did in the last decade! ***"Work To Do"(1972)---listen to the way Ronald attacks the vocal in the second verse..."keep your lovelite burning and a little food hot in my plate...you might as well get used to me coming home a little late".A soulful gem! ***"Summer Breeze"(1974)---I love the original version by Seals and Crofts, but the Isleys actually improve this song, and the whole thing concludes with a killer guitar solo by Ernie. ***"Hello It's Me"(1974)---Here,the fellas take a Todd Rundgren hit and turn it into a soulful, breezy slow jam. ***"Harvest For The World"(1976)---listen to the message,y'all! ***"Footsteps In The Dark"(1977)---this haunting number has been sampled and/or covered by quite a few people, but nothing tops the original. ***"Livin In The Life"(1977)---A dynamic funk-fest!! This is the kinda stuff that I miss from them...gritty,take-no-prisoners funk jams that will leave you sweaty and breathless on the dancefloor. ***"Take Me To The Next Phase" (1978)---ditto ***"It's A Disco Night"(1979)---don't let the title fool you. This is not some heavily-orchestrated Disco hit,it's classic Isleys funk..."baby,the place is rockin,it's a Disco night" ***"Hurry Up And Wait"(1981)---alot of people aren't familiar with this song because it didn't really become a big hit.But it's a hot, funky number from their little-noticed 'Grand Slam' album. ***"I Need Your Body"(1983)---this is from the 'Between The Sheets' album. The title track got all the attention, but "I Need Your Body" is the real gem from that album.

I don't think I've ever heard an Isley song I didn't like. Add "Ballad of the Fallen Soldier" to the required listening list.

***"Voyage To Atlantis"(1977)---it's a shame that young kids today are only familiar with their newer,R-Kelly-produced crap songs."Voyage To Atlantis" kills anything they did in the last decade! great cut david. i love the intro...it hooks you in before you even heard ronnie's vocal...i figure this one would be in the top of the fave isley's cuts. ***"Work To Do"(1972)---listen to the way Ronald attacks the vocal in the second verse..."keep your lovelite burning and a little food hot in my plate...you might as well get used to me coming home a little late".A soulful gem! ***"Summer Breeze"(1974)---I love the original version by Seals and Crofts, but the Isleys actually improve this song, and the whole thing concludes with a killer guitar solo by Ernie. yep i agree. this kicks seals & crofts version to HEll. ***"Hello It's Me"(1974)---Here,the fellas take a Todd Rundgren hit and turn it into a soulful, breezy slow jam. ditto man. i have them on video doing this on soul train circa 1974...love o'kelly's and rudy's "don't change, don't change backing vocals...silky gospel cool. ***"Harvest For The World"(1976)---listen to the message,y'all! ***"Footsteps In The Dark"(1977)---this haunting number has been sampled and/or covered by quite a few people, but nothing tops the original. one of the best they ever did. marvin isley's bass is a highlight for sho'.ronnie carresses every verse ... great lyrics too. ***"Livin In The Life"(1977)---A dynamic funk-fest!! This is the kinda stuff that I miss from them...gritty,take-no-prisoners funk jams that will leave you sweaty and breathless on the dancefloor. how in the world did i forget this one!!! The title track got all the attention, but "I Need Your Body" is the real gem from that album. the rest of the above are superb.
