Ah, they're all good. Instead of competing with each other, they should all collaborate together. That would be the ultimate, orgasmic, New Wave experience. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Hands down U2 , they are still given it to me! Plus did you see Duran Duran at the VMA's YiCKEs! Hot, like hot wings with hot chocolate in hell. Ah huh!

I think there's a big spread between these bands.
U2 is far better than INXS. And INXS is far better than Duran Duran. Now if you would've asked U2 vs. The Cure or something, it would've been a bitter tougher.

Yes Tron but I don't agree about the U2 is far better than INXS statement, since the beginning INXS were a dance music band, I think that their Original Sin album was produced by Nile Rodgers and U2 tried to be one with their 1991 album ( I forgot the title), the one with Mysterious Ways on it...

Now if you would've asked U2 vs. The Cure or something, it would've been a bitter tougher. - A better comparison imo would be between U2 and Simple Mind - Duran Duran lacked of of substance indeed - what would have been their success without their lovely face & the MTV explosion? ( even if they tried to be funky with Notorious ) they were more at the Spandau Ballet level * [This message was edited Sun Sep 7 12:39:20 PDT 2003 by jn2]

of those 3 I gotta go with U2 first&then Duran,Duran&then Inxs.I give U2 the edge mainly because I think they made better Albums overall than the others.I think Duran,Duran had the cooler Singles.Inxs was Cool&Happening all at once&then cooled off to me. mistermaxxx

Going with U2 first. I think "The Joshua Tree" did for me what "Purple Rain" did for new Prince fans. I even went to their "Zoo Tv" Tour at Giants Stadium in '92. Then it would be Duran Duran (No-No-Notorious!). Last but not least, INXS.

I like all three bands on different levels or for reasons, and I don't get the need to compare them since in my eyes they are all different bands with different angles. Anyway it's easy to dismiss D2 for instance as being a video pretty boy band as it has happened in this thread. If you didn't listen to music beyond the radio and video hits, then it's easy to just say that's all they offered. I listen to all three for different moods or if I want a more political, spiritual influence I would listen to U2. All of them are relevant in their own right and brought something to a decade that still stands the test of time in my book. I don't like all three bands the same way, but I appreciate what all three have brought to the music scene. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

U2 or INXS about the same.

U2 by FAR! I always thought of INXS as U2 clones. They were entertaining but they did nothing substantial. U2- War, Boy, The Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby. INXS- Listen Like Thieves, Kick , X...no contest in my opinion.
Duran Duran is a pop band comparable to NSYNC.

(original sin was the single...TheSwing was the name of the album album produced by Nick Launay) The growth in INXS' music can only b truly realised when u hear every album in succession. start with that StayYoung set...right there u hear their beginnings. then Shabooh Shoobah they grew... The Swing had more spunk...Listen Like Thieves is one of thier hardest rocking albums. Kick is THE shit! X is a great pop/rock album (beautiful ballads ByMySide/TheStairs). Welcome... is an xperience...hear it all from start 2 finish. (the new lead singer JonStevens sang backing vocals on BabyDontCry...Noiseworks were doing their album in the same sydney studio. in return,Michael sang the Larry Graham part on the Noiseworks cover of "Take U Higher") Full Moon... i find the same deal...really rocking. Michael was going thru alot personally,u hear it on songs like KillThePain & VikingJuice...the odd vibes. the duet with ray charles on "please (...u got that need) is funky...the live version from letterman back then is great!) Elegantly Wasted is a fucking awesome rock album which never got the credit it deserved. funky (..Wasted,Shine,dont lose your head) rocking (girl on fire, shake the tree, show me) & deep (we r thrown 2gether,just a man<< michael letting it all hang out) also Kirk Pengilly is one of the funkiest rhythm guitarists around. & INXS have killer basslines thanx 2 Garry Gary Beers but hey, they r my #1 band so sue me! I love all three bands, but for me it has to be INXS.
I find it funny that some people think INXS copy U2. If anything, its the other way round. When U2 decided to "lighten up" and turn a bit more poppy in 90, INXS had already delivered Kick and X. When U2 decided to really change their sound with Zooropa and POP, INXS had already got Welcome to wherever you are in the bag. While U2 took a few years to decide to get back to more basics with the brilliant All you can't leave behind, INXS had already been back in the studio and turned out Full Moon and Elegantly Wasted. Both bands are great. But INXS never copied. EVERYONE knows an INXS guitar when they hear it, whether you like them or not. To sound unique, but to still pull off new ideas is hard thing to do. I think the biggest shame for INXS was that Michaels death overshadowed the Elegantly Wasted Album, and it was fantastic. Searching and Everything were hits waiting to happen. But in a way, it nice that the record company didn't cash in by chucking singles out around the death. .

U2, far and away. and i love DD and Inxs, but U2 is one of the alltime great rock bands. They have 2 albums in the top tier in rock history - The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.
INXS over Duran Duran. They are sadly underrated. Some of their best work, like Full Moon Dirty HEarts which is a GREAT album, got very little attention. And i love DD's bowie-fied dance pop... they have some great songs too... but they're more of a singles band.
