I think Alicia has an attitude sometimes, she think she's so amazing and so fresh n new
her album was really good, but why the hype? was it any different from say Erykah, Donnie H ect

on the Ghetto thing, she comes across so fake
and the Christina Aguilera duet and FHM photo shoot
eww someone wants to break into mainstream

Yeah, Alicia definitely tries to be down. I guess there's so much hype because in this day and age where sampling is the norm she's like a young female Prince. You, know, writes her own stuff, plays her own piano; and she's classically trained too! It's like, how many other kids from the "ghetto" are classically trained pianists?

But, she tries too hard to show that she's ghetto. Like, she needs that street credibility to prove that's she's really down. Sorta like Vanilla Ice. smile

They'll be like "she's being herself" being her,,what? Ghetto folks leave the "ghetto" in their home, they don't expose it in public. But they still rambling about how "real" she is lol

Oh well!

I definitely get the feeling that Badu has bought into her own hype. I saw her in concert a couple of months ago, and it was the worst concert I have ever seen, to the extent that she is too talented to put on such a disorganized set. The band sounded like it was in soundcheck for an hour, and then Badu rambled for about 10 minutes talking about jealous back-stabbing friends and exhorted the antsy crowd to "transcend" those kind of people. She looked more like the newbie than Syleena Johnson, who opened for Badu and did her show like a pro should.

I do think Badu is a little pretentious, but I also think that she's so talented as to make it palatable.

Sound familiar?
