Chucho Valdes - Live at The Village Vanguard, Song Ponle La Clave. Oh lawwwd... Tooo good. You gotta hear 'em. Thank you just for mentioning Freddie Hubbard!!! I've been plugging Freddie here at the org since I started hanging here...To me he is the toughest trumpet player EVER!!! Yes, I even think he's tougher than Miles even though philosophically him and Miles are different. The two are also different in their approach to the trumpet. But Freddie is not only tough on his instrument, but he is also an excellent composer. Some of his greatest albums are out of print though...Seek out... It's damn sweeet! That Coltrane/Hartman CD is a good one! (I was listening to it just this week.) I've been painting my housein the last couple of weeks, so I got a chance to listen to lots of music while I work, and digging on some great jazz: Herbie Hancock - Gershwin's World Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch Cassandra Wilson - Blue Light 'Til Dawn Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker - various compilations Hoagy Charmichael - compilation The classic Getz/Gilberto/Jobim bossa nova CD, as well as a bunch of other jazzy Brazilian stuff Grover Washington - Arias (actually, classical played by a jazz musician) Miles Davis - Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain Preservation Hall Jazz Band - one of their 2 CD sets (old time New Orleans jazz) *****************************************

It's damn sweeet! Add Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley to that list. Also check out Milt Jackson and John Coltrane's "Bags and Trane," as well as The Quintet -- Live At Massey Hall, and of course, "Bird & Diz." Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

It's damn sweeet! Miles Davis - Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain Y'Know I've bought these because of everyone here (and I like jazz) but Sketches of Spain was like a soundtrack to a boring movie. I'm obviously missing something, I've got to listen again.

I would also reccommend: First Light Red Clay Backlash The Black Angel All of those are good. With Red Claybeing a classic!!! The 20-bit digitally remastered version is awesome with a live rendition of the title song... That lineup was awesome... Freddie Hubbard- Trumpet Stanley Turrentine-Sax George Benson- Guitar Hubert Laws- Flute Ron Carter-Bass Everyone on this one take breathtaking solos...A spectacular performance... The song "Red Clay" was sampled by A Tribe Called Quest in 1993.
