The Natalie Cole Anthology Any Natalie Cole fans here? I went CD shopping yesterday and picked up a cool 2-CD compilation called 'The Natalie Cole Anthology'.Here's the tracklist...
THE NATALIE COLE ANTHOLOGY (Capitol/The Right Stuff) DISC 1--- This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) Inseparable Joey I Can't Say No You Sophisticated Lady (She's A Different Lady) Mr.Melody No Plans For The Future Good Morning Heartache Your Eyes Peaceful Living I've Got Love On My Mind I'm Catching Hell (Living Here Alone) Party Lights Be Thankful Annie Mae Our Love La Costa DISC 2--- Something's Got A Hold On Me (Live) Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Live) Que Sera,Sera (Whatever Will Be,Will Be) (Live) I Love You So Stand By Sorry Your Lonely Heart Someone That I Used To Love Stairway To The Stars Hold On Nothin' But A Fool You Were Right Girl Sounds Of A Happy Love (previously unreleased) Clearly, this set concentrates on her Capitol years (1975-81) and that's not such a bad thing. Her 70s work is incredible, especially soulful ballads like "I've Got Love On My Mind" and "Our Love".There are also alot of key album tracks, and even a previously unreleased track "Sounds Of A Happy Love".Curiously, this set doesn't include anything from her 1979 duet album with Peabo Bryson. By now, there really should be a multi-disc Natalie Cole box set.The Capitol years were only the beginning. In 1987,her career experienced a rebirth with the highly successful 'Everlasting' album, and then of course, her 'Unforgettable...With Love' album in 1991 gave her the biggest success of her career.I'm waiting for a box set that includes all of these songs in one place.

This is an interesting set...Well at least this anthology includes "La Costa" from her 1977 album Thankful{Nice album cover to boot}. That is one beautiful breezy record. You can hear the sounds of the ocean at the beginning and end of the song{La Costa}...Awesome stuff!!! Plus the horn arrangements are tight on that piece.

I'm thrilled that this set includes FIVE songs from Natalie's 1975 debut album 'Inseparable'.That is a classic album filled with soulful gems.I really love Natalie Cole.A few years ago,I read her autobiography "Angel On My Shoulder" and it was really, really insightful, candid and interesting. In fact,it is probably the most enjoyable autobiography I've ever read. They made a TV movie based on it.
These days,Natalie mostly sings jazz. She released a beautiful jazz album last year called 'Ask A Woman Who Knows' and continues to tour frequently. And I must say,she is still strikingly beautiful

Natalie Cole is going to be at the Jazz Fest tonight in Detroit, I believe. It's free, so if you're in the area, get down to Hart Plaza & check her out.
