Rare, forgotten singles from the 70s (remember these songs?)

Whenever we discuss 70s music and make our lists of our favorite songs, the usual songs are mentioned.Nothing wrong with that, but what about the lesser known singles, the songs you rarely see on 70s compilations? To those of you who were around back then,do you remember these forgotten tracks?

***"Angel In Your Arms" by Hot (1977)---Who could ever forget this song's chorus..."The angel in your arms this morning/is gonna be the devil in someone else's arms tonight".Not much is known about this female trio, and I don't think they had any other real hits. But for a brief moment in 1977,they were riding high with this single.

***"If It Don't Fit,Don't Force It" by Kellie Patterson (1977)---I have not heard this song since 1977! It got alot of airplay on our local R&B station. The catchy chorus goes..."If it don't fit, don't force it,just relax and let it go/Just because that's how you want it doesn't mean it will be so".Great advice, and a great single too.

***"Go Away Little Boy" by Marlena Shaw(1977)---R&B lovers should remember this song.It was one of those unforgettable "tell-it-like-it-is" songs in which a woman sets her no-good man straight.Marlena really lets him have it during the song's long rap/spoken segment. It's similiar to the the stuff that Millie Jackson was doing around this time, but without the profanity...lol...

***"Let Me Take You Dancing" by Bryan Adams (1979)---I'm sure that Bryan Adams would love to forget this song...lol...personally,I like this song, but you won't recognize his voice. His vocals have been speeded up,making him sound like a Disco Chipmunk.

***"It's Sad To Belong" by England Dan and John Ford Coley (1977)---These are the guys who had that huge 1976 smash "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight".A year later, they bounced back with this impressive song, which I love.Check out the chorus..."It's sad to belong to someone else when the right one comes along".When I listen to this track,I always imagine the Bee Gees singing it.It's similiar to many of the adult-contemporary ballads that they were doing at the time.

***"Married Men" by Bette Midler (1979)---By 1979,disco was so big that everybody wanted a piece of it.Bette Midler was no exception. She came out with this bouncy Disco track, which features a then-unknown Luther Vandross on background vocals. In this song, she's complaining that all the good men are already taken.

***"Whodunnit" by Tavares (1977)---This is one of those gimmicky yet charming numbers that this band would rather forget. But I like it.The lyrics deal with a man whose girlfriend is missing;apparently some other dude has come along and swept her off her feet. The guys get to throw in some memorable ad libs like "Hey Baretta, won't you please go get her..."Kojak,won't you bring her back?"...

***"So Into You" by Atlanta Rhythm Section (1977)---one of the most underrated singles from the late 70s! A perfect pop song, this is a gem.

Feel free to go through your old records and remind us of some other forgotten songs from the 70s.

Isn't that a remake of the Parliament track of the same name from "Chocolate City"?I think they say "...It's better to ease on in ..." tho. There are two versions on the remaster that came out a few months ago.

Oh, yeah I remember that one. I haven't heard the name "Kellie Patterson" in ages! I still remember what she looked like.

I remember "Whodunnit" too.

When I think of a funky Bette Midler tune "Married Men" comes to mind. Actress Katy Segal was a backup singer for the Divine Miss M. Don't know if she sang backup on this hot track, though.

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.
