I reckon Madonna's over on MTV, just like Mike and Prince.

The 1958 curse strikes again.

It's a lame show and has been from the start. It should be scrapped altogether.

u know, u have a point there. in theory, seeing other artists' take on a song is interesting. but to have the real deal there overseeing makes u think, "why don't u just do it?"

and then the real deal comes out and sings some lame ass song from their new album that no one knows. so THAT'S why Madonna wasn't the first -- the inception of the show didn't coincide with a release date for her (that and she doesn't have lame ass songs!)

It's silly because as you said, the show is annual and has to coincide with the release of a "legend's" new album. The "legend" also has to agree to let their songs be massacred by other acts. Madonna has never really been one for embracing her old hits. Michael Jackson already sat down and watched people do it to his on a proper network station with his 30th Anniversary shows, Metallica are legends but NOT known for their videos. There can't be many people left, and they've only done 3 now.

Until now. What with the "Into the Groove" groove on the Gap ad, and reported performance of "Like A Virgin" with J-Lo and Britney tonight. A mini Icon, kinda, huh?

No, it's because her management were behind the creation of the "title" in the first place and Virgin organised it for some promotion for her album. It wasn't a coincidence that she had an album ready for release at the time.

Madonna is NOT over on MTV.Her videos still get shown, and she was one of the highlights of last night's VMAs.Trust me,the folks at MTV have alot of love and respect for Maddy. As for her becoming an MTV Icon...she will,in time.Of course, when she does,it will be kinda anti-climatic,since she's already considered the ultimate MTV icon and has been since 1984.

Not saying she didn't deserve it. SHe IS an icon, but the show itself is a joke, the show itself was created by MTV conversing with EMI, Janet ain't the first in any list of influential legends. She's big, she's good, she's influential, but the fact of her being first is neither here nor there.
