pass the peas

Hi,
Having heard nemurous renditions of 'Pass the peas' on prince' last tour, I was keen to hear the origional. Could somebody please tell me which album it is taken from and the artist? is it a maceo composition? Also, what maceo albums would u recomend to a new listener? thanks
