I just heard a new Stephanie Mills song

One of our local Quiet Storm radio stations has just premiered a new song by Stephanie Mills. It's a lovely, soulful ballad called "Can't Let Him Go" and it is GREAT.Stephanie sounds better than ever.

Have you guys heard this song? Any details on her upcoming album?

How come old school acts always have to come with a "Quiet Storm" type album? (see EWF's last album) They act like people over 30 don't like to get down anymore or something. Just once I'd like to see someone from back in the day come back with a killer dance floor jam.

Your point is well-taken.But I think I know the reason why Old School artists mostly stick with ballads/Quiet Storm.Let's face it,R&B radio would only play uptempo jams by the folks who are "hot" now (Ashanti,R.Kelly, the rappers, etc). It's easier for an Old School artist to strike back with a good ballad, because Quiet Storm stations still support them and will play their music.Even the Isley Brothers, who have made a huge comeback in recent years, wouldn't dare release a big, funky dance track as a single. They're sticking to slow jams, because that's the only way they will get played on the radio. You won't hear nothing funky like "Fight The Power" or "Living In The Life" from them these days,at least not on the radio.

Speaking of Earth Wind and Fire...you really should get the Japanese import version of their latest CD 'The Promise'.It contains two funky bonus tracks: "So Lucky" (co-written by Questlove) and "Soul",which is reminiscent of past funk jams like "Getaway".It baffles me why these two gems weren't included on the regular US version.Since most of the album is slow, these songs would have balanced things out a little better.
