1983 Top 40 Flashback: Kajagoogoo-Too Shy Inspired by Davideye's threads on those great 1983 top 40 songs. 1983 and 1984 were great years for top 40 pop music, so every week or two, we'll do a song or two from those years{a 20 year retrospective of sorts}.
This track used to be my jam in summer of 1983. This song also crossed over and got airplay on R&B radio. These guys with the weird hairdo's only had one hit, but it was a sizeable hit. It went to number #5 on the pop charts in the U.S. I really used to screw up the lyrics some kind of awful to this song. I also loved the bass lines laid down on this track. "You're Too shy shy Hush hush, eye to eye Too shy shy Hush hush, eye to eye"

Gotta love this song.It takes you back to a time when we had fun, simple songs all over MTV and on the radio.Do you remember the video, where the lead singer was trying to get with a waitress, but she was just "too shy".

When that song was number one in the 80s, my dad had a car for sale, a Renault 18 Turbo. Anyway, he got a phone call one Saturday morning regarding the advert he put in a car magazine for it, then an hour later 2 guys showed up and it was non other than the keyboardist (or drummer, eye cant remember now) of the group Kajagoogoo, with the Bands Manager!!! It was weird having them in our kitchen drinking coffee!!!

This song was produced by Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran. Gotta love this track.
www.kajagoogoo.com Limahl, the lead singer, also did the title track to the Never Ending Story soundtrack. Ah, the memories.

Oh, yeah! I was feelin' this one. Wasn't "Limahl" his first or last name spelled backwards, (L. Hamil) or something quirky like that? [This message was edited Mon Aug 25 8:19:51 PDT 2003 by UptownDeb]

Yep sure do...and at the end of the video the lead singer{Limahl} looks at the girl trying to make eye contact and she just looks away in a disgust kind of way. I also like at the beginning of the video when he is rocking side to side in front of the actual bassist in the group playing air bass guitar.

Great tune. In fact, one of the most definitive New Wave songs. I also love their other hit, "Hang on Now". These guys were dope. It's moments like these why I pick New Wave as my favorite genre.
New Wave Forever!!! NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
