08/22/2003 13:45:45 EST IRS Hauls Away Peabo Bryson's Belongings

The Internal Revenue Service used a large moving truck to carry away the contents of a mansion to pay back taxes singer-songwriter Peabo Bryson allegedly owes.

Bryson owed the IRS $1.2 million as of 2000, according to a federal tax lien on file at the Fulton County Courthouse. He couldn't be reached for comment.

Although Bryson isn't listed as owner of the house in the city's trendy Buckhead neighborhood, IRS spokesman Mark Green said the belongings confiscated Thursday belonged to Bryson.

"We have exhausted all measures to collect some unpaid taxes, and this is the very last step that we had to take," Green said.

Bryson has had troubles with the IRS since 1980, according to court records. In 1989, a lien on a home Bryson owned was settled when he paid $1.2 million in taxes.

The 52-year-old artist won a Grammy award in 1992 for best pop duo performance for recording the theme song to "Beauty and the Beast" with Celine Dion. He won the same award again in 1993 with Regina Belle for "A Whole New World."

Yea...Peabo lives here in Atlanta..well actually in Buckhead...which is{upscale Atlanta}...I saw this report on the news this morning. They showed the IRS taking belonging out of his crib and everything...messed up X 3.

He had a house on Peachtree Street years ago that the IRS took...how can you not have money to pay taxes, but when the IRS takes your house, you go out and buy another in the most expensive part of Atlanta???
