Gloria Gaynor is still queen?

I was invited to a concert with Cloria Gaynor yesterday. When I was told that it was to be her longest show in many years, I had images of her tumbling about on stage in a drug infused state, forgetting words to songs and saying "I love you, Sweden! Oh, uh... Copenhagen!"
Or that she would - at the very least - constantly have a bottle of wine at hand. You know, like Sue Ellen in Dallas?

At the reception before the show (ninety percent wannabees, a couple of Danish celebreties and press - like me, only I wasn't there to work, but just to see the show), Gloria Gaynor was suddenly rushed out of the room by her manager, so I figured he had just received a call that her dealer had arrived, so she could get ready for the nights show.

But you know, me and my friends were actually very postively surprised about her performance. She was such a pro. This aging disco queen proved that she was still queen. Yes, we were treated to her greatest hits: I Am What I Am, Never Can Say Goodbye and two versions of I Will Survive. And boy, was the place jumping! Even I got carried away there!
She also performed three or four songs off her latest album and some cover versions of other 70ies stuff, like Barry White and the classic Killing Me Softly.
I had a blast and was dancing my butt off. What a wonderful lady and professional performer she was.
The audience was mostly gay as the show was held in connection with the Danish Gay Pride, and the vibe was just so fantastic. I think everybody had a great time. Even Gloria, who treated us to a couple of encores, teasing us "we were a greedy audience" because we kept calling her back for more.

No, it wasn't a mindblowing thing, like when you went to your first Livesexy show, Act II or Wendy & Lisa on their Eroica tour - just a disco dancing good time. Yes, that's what it was: A very, very good time. I'm glad I went. If you get the opportunity, go see her show and have a good time too.

Gloria Gaynor is still the disco queen and boy, can she sing. There ain't nothing has-been about her.

No offense to Gloria because I really do love her.But I've never understood why she was often referred to as "The Disco Queen".In the late 70s,I heard many critics call her that.Yes,she had a huge, memorable Disco smash with "I Will Survive".But everyone knows that Donna Summer was the real Disco Queen. But hey,I'm glad you enjoyed that show.Did she perform "Anybody Wanna Party?" That's my favorite Gloria Gaynor jam!!

Uh, no. But she performed a cover of Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money." I love that song. It makes me think of my mother.
I like Donna too. I Feel Love is also classic, so I got the album it was on, but the rest of the songs on it... zzz

Donna's 'I Remember Yesterday' album is very interesting and ambitious. It's a concept album in whcih each song represents a different decade. The final song "I Feel Love" represents the future, with it's techno, futuristic sounds.

I remember in 1979 while "I Will Surivive" was on the top of the charts in the U.S. Gloria performed on some dance/disco show and the host of the show, after Gloria performed her signature song, declared her "The Queen Of Disco".

She had a hesitant look on her face as if to say "I'm not worthy, what about Donna".

I used to tell my buddies that I was gonna grow up locate and marry Donna Summer. I thought she was ALL THAT and a deluxe bag of chips in the late 70's...{"crunch, crunch"}.
