I'm really getting into Bowie at the moment, so all you experts, please help me out:

1. I have "The man who sold...", "Hunky Dory", "Ziggy", "Aladdin Zane", "Heroes", "Low", "Station to Station", "Hours" and "Heathen". Which other albums are must-have? Except for "Space Oddity", want to get that anyway.

2. Does he really have two differently coloured eyes?

3. What is the difference between the two BowieNet memberships (except for this signed whatever)?

1. You should get everything he did up to Let's Dance, though it sounds like you have a lot of it already. Still, you should have "Diamond Dogs", "StationToStation", "Lodger", "Scary Monsters", "Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture" and (even though it's not my fave Bowie album, I know people who swear by it) "Young Americans". If you can get your hands on a rare live album from 1978 called "Stage", I highly recommend it. Beyond that, the 80s and 90s output is hit or miss, though you can't go too wrong with "Earthling" and "1.Outside".

Earthling and Heathen are BRILLAIANT!!! i know alot of ppl don't worry to much for 90s Bowie but he's a lot like Prince at the mo. actually, more ppl dislike Prince than they do Bowie but they are very similiar.

'Black Tie, White Noise' has been re-issued as a 2 disc set with DVD.

I purchased 'Best of Bowie' today and with my limited knowledge it seems to be a very good overview of his entire career.

I really 'discovered' Bowie with Heathen last year, but since then I've bought many of his 90's releases. After 'Heathen', 'Earthling' is one of my favourites. It has some particularly strong songs on it, such as 'Telling Lies', 'Dead Man Walking' and 'I'm afraid of Americans.'

About the eye-thing:

I just read on mtv.com that the differently coloured eyes steem from an accident at school.

Love the songs, love his voice, great cover of 'Across the Universe', the bonus tracks on the rykodisc version were awesome as well.

He has a condition called aniscoria, which is the medical term for unequal pupils. In 1962, aged 14, he got punched in the eye by his school friend George Underwood, during an argument over a girl named Carol Goldsmith. George's knuckle caught David's eye and dislodged something. David was admitted to Farnborough Hospital, where it was found that the sphincter muscles in his left eye were damaged and he underwent two eye operations. He has an enlarged pupil that remains permanently open, giving the effect of different coloured eyes. David and George are to this day still life-long friends.

George played in early Bowie groups and eventually became a commercial artist. He was involved in the design of the album sleeves for Hunky Dory (1971), The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars (1972) albums/posters/flyers, graphics for The 1980 Floor Show and The Man Who Fell To Earth book cover.

"Scary Monsters" is his best album. Get it soon!

I was listening to Diamond Dogs this weekend for the first time in a long time and I'd forgotten how good it is.

Station to Station is great - Bowie has some amazing musicians with him on that one. His vocal on "Wild is the Wind" is incredible - I could listen to it 25 times in succession and not be bored.

Scary Monsters is also an excellent, weird album.

Your friends are just jealous of those Legs of Death Ziggy's got - hottest legs...EVER!

it's exciting but expensive. Having just got into Prince in the last year and buying all his albums I am starting to rate Bowie just as highly and am in the process of buying all his Cds.

I was just listening to Diamond Dogs this morning. Apart from 1984 and Sweet Thing none of the tracks did anything for me first few times round. Now I'd say that We Are The Dead is one of my favourite Bowie tracks and the whole album is amazing.

What is the expert's view on the "Alladin Sane" album? That one I think is FULL of great songs. Some might be, like "the prettiest star", a little to sweet, but I still like them.
"Panic in Detroit" absolutely rocks, IMO.


I suppose most of you have seen the show in Paris from 2002, right? I have it on DVD, and find it amazing. I guess a new Bowie fan is born!
