U2

There are sooo many songs from U2 that I can say that I can't live without, or don't know who I would be without them.

Here's just a little list:

Love is blindness
I will follow
Running to stand still
Staring at the Sun
Dirty Day
Bullet the Blue Sky
All I want is you
Zooropa
Stay (Faraway, so close)
New Year's Day
Electrical Storm
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
Night and Day

U2 (along with Prince, The Cure and Depeche Mode) are one of the few bands that have become my consistant music throughout my life. Even though they gained most of their popularity with "The Joshua Tree"...they kept changing their sound.
Only until the release of their newer album "All that you can't leave behind", I've started to lose interest. The album, apart from one song, "Electrical Storm" was the highlight of it for me.
I don't even mind Bono's political stance. Atleast he makes more sense than most polititions.

This song is not a rebel song, this song is Sunday Bloody Sunday!!

I like U2 too. I was aware of them during the latter eighties, but didn't care much about their music then - and still don't, although I do have a couple of favorites on The Best of...: "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "With Or Without You" - but "Night And Day" on Red, Hot + Blue intrigued me.
I heard Achtung Baby at a friend's and went out and bought it myself and have followed U2 since.

I thought there was some very good tracks on All That You Can't Leave Behind - "Beautiful Day", "Wild Honey" - but my fave U2 albums are still Achtung Baby and Zooropa.

"The Fly" rocks - I don't understand why it got left off their second Best of... And "So Cruel" is an amazing song. Love it.

Been a U2 fan as long as I have been a fan of Prince. Only album I truly don't like is POP, but it has its moments. U2's album have aged very well imo, very much like a lot of Prince's albums. I couldn't figure out why The Fly was left of the Best Of either...however I remember when it was released people HATED it. So maybe because it wasn't considered a "hit" it was left off...who knows?

I still don't understand why "The Fly" was no included either...
"So Cruel" is an amazing song too...as is "Who's gonna ride your wild horses" nod

If I made me U2 list with ALL the songs I loved, I'd be here all night. I guess it would be better to say...there are few songs of theirs that I don't like. smile

'KITE' & 'RED HILL MINING TOWN' do it 4 me.
I agree with ya Pagey, pOp definately lacked any dynamism - its almost like they're on auto pilot and going thru the motions. It may have worked 4 Zooropa - but sorry, not 4 pOp.
I still rate the EleVatioN Live DVD as THE best filmed show Ive ever seen, and WHAT a show that was captured!
If any of u guys have it, u DO know that there are a couple of hidden 'easter eggs' on there right?
(including a VERY cool one where u can watch the entire opening song thru Bono's 'Bonocam' glasses .
Let me know if u want the details and Ill post them within the next 24 hours 4 u guys.
and The Edge is probably one of THE most criminally underrated guitarists out there imo. My twocents
music SHOW THE LOVE! music

Electrical Storm isn't on All That You Can't Leave Behind - its from their last greatest hits collection.

Great choices...

I would say Achtung Baby was my favourite U2 album, but I've got a place in my heart for the Joshua Tree also smile

I've always like U2 but I started LOVING them when they released Pop. I think it's a great album and it was a great tour too.

It's all about The Fly and U2's Zoo TV/Zooropa era for me!

Achtung Baby came out in 91 and hit right around the time Nirvana exploded, and yet, I thought U2's Achtung Baby was the best of the 90's. A masterpiece, I wore out to tapes I think...it was the soundtrack to my South American trip!

I had to go the concert, sat right next to the catwalk! Amazing show I'll never forget.

Anyway, Bono's The Fly character fascinated and still fascinates me.

It was Cyberpunk, artsy, technological, mass-communication, rebelious, Rock N ROll, it should of set the stage for the 90's, but the bums took over. U2 did come out on top of it as super innovative.

Zoo TV was a great statement on the stupidity of TV and Media and it's use as a tool of control and deception.

FCP, we are too much alike! I dig that U2 period the most as well.

I just watched The Million Dollar hotel and LOVED the soundtrack SOOO much I went out and bought it the next day. The vibe of that music is what I'd like to go for in my own right now so it really stuck with me. Bono's voice just makes me cream.

The taping of their show, Live at Red Rocks is pretty amazing...

I agree, BananaCologne (nice to see ya again, btw wink)--Red Hill Mining Town is something incredible. It always reminds me of a road trip I took one sunny autumn day with a guy I thought I loved, and how "right with the world" we were that day... sigh A long, long time ago!

That's sweet AnotherLoverToo, yeah, some of U2's songs are the soundtracks to my life as well.

I love the original Sweetest Thing. And most of Rattle adn Hum.

Oh and I was next to the catwalk in the Zoo TV tour. It was surreal, with the floating Trabant cars and giant TV screens...so futuristic.

They rock. Sure the last album was a little dull, but they went back to basics. Hopefully the next one will be more sparkful.
