Q-Tip's Kamaal: The Abstract Has anyone else heard this shelved album? If so, what's your take on it? I think it was good to hear Q-Tip go left field from the usual hit-making hip-hop songs, but didn't really like the fact that it was in the same vibe as The Roots and other okayplayer artists. I don't really understand why L.A. Reid didn't support his vision, but can easily market someone like Avril or Pink. Overall, I liked the album, but wouldn't mind hearing Tip rap over an MPC drum machine and some samples, again.

I love this album, I play it to death. It's really imaginative, and creative. Kudos to Tip for doing something like this. ***************************************************
Seems like the overly critical people are the sheep now days. It takes guts to admit that you like something. -Rdhull ...it ain't where ya from, it's where ya at... - Rakim

Shoot, once Clive left Arista and handed it 2 Reid it went down the hill. He overlooked Santana, Whitney, Toni & TLC over Avrill lol The problem is Reid is a musician, he's a drummer 4 god's sake, how could he not identify with his fellow artists and support them? Anyway, I heard a DJ once said that this LP will get re-issued by an independent label with the help of Okayplayer. So, lets hope!

Tip needs to break away from those fuckin' okayplayer artists. Big Gipp (of The Goodie Mob) was on The Ryan Cameron Morning Show about a week ago explaining his disappointment with the lack of support L.A. Reid gives to Arista's black artists. He said that it really boils down to "if you're not white, you're not right" and sad to say, but that's why he has pushed aritsts like Avril Lavigne and Pink. He said that L.A. pretty much forgot about the artists that were on LaFace from back in the day (Toni Braxton, Goodie Mob, TLC) and credits him for breaking up the group by offering he and Cee-Lo solo deals and nothing to Khujo and T-Mo. Overall, I think L.A. has lost touch with reality of just doing what's right. Period. I mean, the man has hired Jermaine Dupri as vice-president for goodness sake! I'm not saying this is the worst idea in the world, but I don't see how artists like Aretha Franklin and Kenny G go hand in hand with artists like The Youngbloodz or Bonecrusher.

Well lol I'm not blaming you, son I'm starting 2 lose the intrest on ?uestlove too, something about his attitude ain't right. I remember when he was saying that "Lauryn Hill couldn't break off from that Stevie Wonder-ish vibe"(a polite way of saying she can't break the mold and get down on the dirty floor like us) and after she released that UNPLUGGED he ZIPPED his fat ass lips 4 good I tell ya, baby showed them the real RAW SHIT like its neva done b4 . I was going to say that but hey lol you know how dramatic some people here could get. I'm shocked that a black musican AND a label-head master can't support his black artists but oh well, turned out that Reid is another huslter who want 2 get outta the game with as much as he could put in his mouth and like any he too thought that white artists are more of sellers,,,oh well The brotha ain't different from Sean Combs & Suge Kinght,,,all of them are hustlers!

Never was. He sucks. Production wise and playing. I remember when he was saying that "Lauryn Hill couldn't break off from that Stevie Wonder-ish vibe"(a polite way of saying she can't break the mold and get down on the dirty floor like us)
He said that shit?!!! WTF!!! That fat-azz nigga can't break away from that Prince-ish vibe. He and James Poyser are already doing a suck-ass interpretation of it. He really needs to just let that shit ride and keep his mouth closed. The brotha ain't different from Sean Combs & Suge Kinght,,,all of them are hustlers!

Aside from Jaguar Wright's I Can't Wait, his drumming techniques on D'angelo's Africa & Common's Heaven Somewhere, and the 20 sec. segue between Star 69 and I Got A Right Ta. Where is the remainder of the Prince-ish vibe in the music ?uest produces or performs on?

I mean considering that's only 4 cuts out of a shit load of album tracks, remixes and production for others, I thought you knew of some that I didn't know of.

No, but I would say that that's a whole hell of a lot. Especially when you consider how these cats are always the first to criticize everyone else's style. It just seems like a contradiction to me.
