I GOTTA TO GET OVER THE HUMP! THE PFUNK THREAD!

I am sitting here listening to a pfunk show from the Pfunk Earth Tour 1977 and man when Pfunk we're cooking the bad was on the one. At this time Jerome Brailey was on drums, Glenn Goins (what a soulful vocalist), Garry Shider, Michael Hampton, Rodney Skeet Curtis, & others. Does anyone have PFunk memories from attending the shows or favorite music Pfunk Jams?

The PFunk are one of my favs.

I never saw them in the 70's but I saw George Clinton and his 23 person line-up a few years ago.

One of the best shows I've seen in the last 10 years. I wish I had a time machine for all of 70's line-ups.

So true PP4...

My favourite groove at the moment is Unfunky UFO...that tune ranks up there in my top five 'Funkiest use of vocals' category.

Funkadelic faves:

Standing on the verge of gettin' it on
Redhot mama
Super stupid
Maggotbrain smile

I have no idea whether they we're 'hits' or not, just that they have the One oozing right through them.

Surely some older orgers must have wittnessed Eddie live in concert???

I'm a big Hendrix fan so I've always had a great connection for Funkadelic more than Parliament...favourite album? Well you can guess, but Standin' on the verge and Free Your Mind... come a close second/third. Parliaments 'Osmium' has that Funkadelic vibe - a really fantastic record. Obviously Mothership Connection is a masterpiece - Night of the Thumpasaurus (Ga ga goo ga ga!), Unfunky UFO, Handcuffs are my faves. Clones of Dr. Funkenstein is another great - I really dig Gettin' to know you, and I've Been Watchin You...smoooth!

I recently descovered a Mutiny compilation (P-Funk offshot from Jerome Brailey) and it is most certainly one of the funkiest records I have! The tracks are simple but anthemic and catchy as hell! I believe the guy co-wrote Tear The Roof Off...

When I set up a band, it will be the next Parliament Funkadelic - I can dream! But music needs a revolution that's for sure. music

Coo Man! I wish i had CLones Of Dr. Funkenstien, seemed like a nice album. I am waiting 2 c if they will re-master those ones..dont know y they skipped Clones, & Funkentelechy. They remastered Electric Spanking and stuff though.

I want Chocolate City also, but im scared of that one, and 'Free Your Mind & Ur Ass Will Follow" and "Funkadelic" all the old guitar ones im scared 2 buy. I keep gettin mixed reviews about "Cosmic Slop" (the most awesome cover ever).

Why you scared??!! Scared it wont be funky?

The thing with the guitar albums is that they are much more earthy, with more of a rock vibe - more on guitar, less on horns. Definitely a different flavour of funk than classic Parliament. If you haven't heard the Maggot Brain album, get yerself a cheap copy from Amazon! Not only is the title track one of the saddest guitar solos ever laid (and more than 9 minutes long!), it's also one of the best (better than Hendrix in some respects). The album is too short, that's the only problem. Each track is a fantastic slice of primordial funk rock.

Saying all that, it was actually Computer Games that introduced me to the P-Funk legacy...Atomic Dog was my favourite track for years!

This is the truest thing I've read here. It needs to be a FUNK revolution.

My friends (p)funk is like a stubborn turd. Try to flush it away but it keeps rising to the top. (P)Funk will never die and in time we'll see it re-born.

I had a best of for some time, but never really got into it all - it was too varied and out of context.

It was only when I got myself Maggot Brain and Mothership Connection that it all became apparent. Get yerself some copies...Only then will you see the future...

yeah i am scared of the early albums because of the sad guitars and weirdness, i dont think i will get in2 it...but i still want them desperatley. I remember Sirnozedevoidofunk asked did any1 hav their albums on mp3 format folders and no 1 responded, i hoped that some1 did have them. I may get the CD's not that i no all this.

Computer Games is classic, especially "Get Dressed" "Man's Best Frind" "Free Alterations" "One Funk At A Time" classic songs. I need sum Bootsy also. I did find the rare "Sweat Band" album though, it's coo.

Thumparello

For a P-Funk newbie their musical catalog is hard to follow. So many spinoff groups and music.

I say start with all the Parliament, Funkadelic and Bootsy.

The compilations don't do shit for them. Most of the lps had concepts and story lines to follow. Don't be scared of the Funkadelic---if you dig Prince you just getting to the root of it all. Their is a rich musical catalog here.

Like Prince said at P-Funk's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: "You got to get into it and dig it!"
