Pop Song Of The Day{8/07/03)...Michael McDonald- Sweet Freedom This was a nice song by former Doobie Brothers frontman from the movie Running Scared starring Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Released in 1986 this song was written by Rod Temperton{memeber of Heatwave who also wrote some of Michael Jackson's and Quincy Jones' hit songs}.
This song is very infectious..especially the chorus... "Shine sweet freedom..shine the light on me" ENJOY BRO915

I love anything that falls out of the mouth of Michael McDonald. I love this song and the video was pretty cool, too.

sorry, not one of his best, IMO, too bouncy and made just for the soundtrack. He is much better than this cut. Ya Mo Be There and Keep Forgetin are much better. ---------------------------------
Funny and charming as usual

I never really thought "Sweet Freedom" was all that "bouncy"... I have heard songs much more "bouncier" than that! I liked the melody and it mattered not that he made it just for a movie soundtrack. I thought it was a decent little tune. "Ya Mo Be There"... man, I love that song as well... and I have to also co-sign Anxiety's vote for "Takin' It To The Streets", a Doobie Brothers standard with Mike's soulful vocals. I guess I just like Michael McDonald! Dude's got soul!

He's got a new album out now called 'Motown'... I love his voice. I have his greatest hits cd, I love the duet ballad between him and Patti LaBelle "On My Own"... Mmmm mmm, mmm.
