Chaka Khan's "C.K."--Was It The Most Missunderstood Solo LP?

I was listening 2 Chaka's "C.K." this afternoon and I wondered why "Chakaholics" and others find it the least favorite solo album delievered by the sistah even tho a greatline of artists like Prince, Miles Davis, Brenda Russell, Stevie Wonder & George Benson and other jazz pioneers contributed in that joint.

Altho I don't really think Prince contributed his best in that effort(Like he did with Patti LaBelle's work), I personaly find this LP pretty enjoyable. Like Brother915 said 2 me "Its a good effort considering at how shady the music biz was going down the hill in the late 80's", esp when the New Jack Swing fever was all over the place.

I'm very intrested about Chaka's opinion about that album(right now and then) was she proud of it despite the poor sales/charts? Regardless of what her openion like,,,what do you guys think of this album?

I know its NOT the best LP,,,but is it a masterpiece. I'm very intrested in what you guys think.

Holla

What do u think of her classy Billie Holiday tributes "The End Of A Love Affair" & "I'll Be Around"?

Of course I think you may like the 1st one but what about the other one?

harley...i like the album. Its not any worse than the "come
2 my house ' she did with prince. i don't recall it getting
postive reviews. And i think the critics hated the prince
stuff she did.

with chaka...there ain't no such thing as a substandard
record. her singing is too Damn GOOd.

(unlike some of her peers..even aretha...chake's voice is still in tact.)

charles
btw
my older sister saw her a few years ago at a chicago show
and said chaka
shocked the audience by doing jazz standards!
(my sis ain't into chaka as much...she adores aretha &
patti more and considers chaka a 'minor league player
compared to ree & labelle)
but even she gave chaka her props ...doin' jazz stuff!)

But seriously tho, your sistah need to have a taste of that earthy/raw stuff more often. You could be a good help influencing the woman(In case if her mind ain't too thick like my young brotha lol).

EDITED VERSION:

Oops sorry, I just realized that she's OLDER than you. Oh well, old folks already got thick minds, they don't get influenced easily. But 4 real tho? I'd love 2 have a conversation with yo sistah just to know why she thinks that Chaka is "'minor league player" wink
