All of J5's albums were remastered and re-released in 2001. Check out Goin' Back To Indiana'. The live version of Who's Lovin' You is AMAZING!

The thing is that there are 11 studio albums on Motown, 15 if you include Michael's solo stuff... and the REAL problem is that most people understandably just want to settle for a Greatest Hits, but I find those really boring and they miss out some really great unknown songs from the later albums.

ALL the the albums from the entire family are here: http://www.jacksonfamily-...index2.htm

Greatest hits sets do tend to suck. The only one i bought was a pretty comprehensive Box set called 'Soulsation' - 82 tracks (I think?) That's wel wort checking out.

i also bought the J5's first two albums on one CD awhile back, i think Motown have brought a few of those out.I own the rest on vinyl.

Boxed set? Of some 60's kids singing? And I thought I wasted my money on the new Project Pitchfork record...

Soulsation is a good box set, but as a fan I didn't settle for anything less than the whole back catalogue.

J5's first 2 albums were their worst IMO. Noting but the few singles and bad Motown covers.

Soulsaton is pretty good. but if its too pricey...get their
first 3 albums and go from there.

their CBS material wasn't as consistant. but i did like
TRuimph.

Ellie, did you get a chance to see the video stuff i talked about? You sound like a real j5 fan!

Yeah younca... I hear ya!!

I SAW that "Going Back to Indiana" special when it was on TV! It had to be around like '70 or '71! I was a shorty who couldn't get enuff of the J5 back in the day! I saved my allowance and bought the soundtrack for the special... Vinyl was da sh*t back then! Unfortunately, I let someone borrow it and... oh well... you know how that goes! It sure would be nice to have that in my possession now!

don't feel too bad. my older sister had all of their albums
and threw them out! (she was the real J5 fanatic!0
the girls back then were a s crazy about the j5 as the girls were about the Beatles a decade b4!
i wish she hadn't thrown out those records.

here's one for you...remember those J5 cartoons?

Aside from Victory, all the CBS Jacksons material is very consistent IMO. Goin' Places is SUCH a great album, but it's the only one which didn't spawn any major hits. I honestly think 2 or 3 tracks could have been on Off The Wall and become classics.

Anyway, all J5 albums except for the Christmas album were released in 2001 with 2 albums on one CD:

Yup, me too. Remember on the Going Back to Indiana special that Bill Cosby was the "roving reporter Scoop Newsworthy" reporting on a basketball game the J5 were going to play against. . .well, I've forgotten now. I loved the J5 so much I just knew I would die if I didn't marry Michael (my 3rd, 4th and 5th grade fantasies). I had a chance to meet them backstage and Berry Gordy lived down the street from me (the house is still there--I still live in the neighborhood). I used to beg my dad to take me to his house so I could meet the J5 (yeah, right, like I was going to get past the security gates).

I have all of that, and I also have this Diana Ross special that the J5 guested on in 1971. Diana And MJ did a skit together, where MJ pretended to be Ole blue Eyes. It was so cute. biggrin

I agree with the notion that there were some good songs to be found on the Jackson 5 original Motown albums. The greatest hits and anthologies can't cover it all..for example...

The Third Album..."How Funky Is Your Chicken" and "Reach In" are superb

ABC...Little Michael is singing his behind off on "Don't Know Why I Love You", plus "One More Chance", "2-4-6-8" was good, {Come Round Here} I'm The One You Need, but the jam on this one is "I Found That Girl" only Jermaine is singing lead on this song, but this track is great. R&B radio stations used to play it alot back in the 70's. ABC is among the finest of all of the Jackson 5 Motown records. Some of the songs off of the ABC album can be found on various anthologies though.

Maybe Tomorrow...this album contains the title track and Never Can Say Goodbye, but also good are "She's Good" with Jermaine singing lead. Also you have "Sixteen Candles" with Jermaine singing lead and then you have the soft laid-back "{We've Got} Blue Skies".

There are great musical moments to hear on the J5 original albums.

Yea, I used to look forward to hearing those J5 songs with Jermaine singing lead. He plays some good bass on some of those old J5 cuts too...I might add. I love the hear the way he lays the groove "in the cut" on "Mama's Pearl".
