A close friend of mine and i were talking on the phone the
other day and got to talking about Purple Rain (the movie)
which blossomed into something worth throwing out to everybody.

we were marveling how prince gave morris the more street-
orientated character (that appealed to the masses) and saddled himself with the "f***ed" ,tortured-not particularly
nice character and from here we debated how the movie would
have been if (a) morris played prince's character and prince
played his. (b) if vanity hadn't left prince's employ and
played the lead female character apples ended up having.

while throwing our theories around on these questions i
mentioned to him that back in the early 60's elvis had a
conversation with his good friend jackie wilson (yes they
were tight!) about jackie doing movies like him.

elvis believed that jackie had the same qualities he had-
sex appeal,dynamic stage presence,good looks-the whole deal
and seriously was trying to get jackie to try this.

jackie was interested in doing this but never got beyond
appearing in a couple of alan freed rock exploitation 50's
movies (as a himself,performing) the problem of course was
jackie was the wrong color. and movie mogul was going to
give him a starring role like elvis had in his movies.

unfortunately for superstars likie jackie,james brown,
marvin gaye,smokey,frankie lymon ,johnny guitar watson,they
were born in too early to get the stardom prince and MJ
(via his great videos) got.

but what if these stars were the same age as prince was
when he made purple rain (and cherry moon)

and got the chance to play in Purple Rain instead of prince?

how about these ladies in APPles's role:
tina turner
sarah vaughn
shirley owens (of the shirelles)
diana ross
grace slick (jefferson airplane)

cher(a young cher)
billie holiday (i'd have billie as the female lead in
cherry moon. i'm serious)

would these stars been better choices than prince & company?

my friend and i rapped about this for a couple of hours and
we were serious (for the most part!)
