Jonny Lang Just saw Jonny Lang Friday night in Atlanta. Now it's been a while (5 years) since his last album, but let me tell you -- he (and his band) were amazing! I saw him once before in 2000, and I thought he was great then -- but he has grown so much as a musician, performer, and bandleader since then. He is still only 22 years old, and his potential is just staggering. He also gave a taste of his new stuff (CD to be released in September), and it was great... He wrote or co-wrote every song on his upcoming CD, and if Friday night was any indication, the world is about to hear about this boy in a big way. It's the only concert I've experienced that comes close to the Prince shows I've been to. The extended jam and solo during the song "I Am" reminded me of P, snd seeing as that is a Prince-penned tune, the influence became even more obvious. A phenomenal talent that should be recognized.

Ah Jonny Lang.
I'm gonna have to check out his upcoming new album. I hope he's going to tour here in Detroit soon too. I was a HUGE fan of his first album. I still play it to death. But his second album was an entirely different thing. Other than the classics "Still Rainin" and "Cherry Red" or whatever it was called, it seemed Jonny was on some slow pillow talk adult contemporary shit. I'm all for an artist doing somethin different, but Dammit, Jonny's a BLUESMAN. "I am" was cool, but that's another story. A tight Prince cover gets me everytime. If he's back to his blues roots, I'll rep the hell outta it. Keep your headphones on.
