What Do U Guys Think Of MD's Tutu?

I was at the wrecka stow buying some stuff and passed buy the used records section(Its amazing what you could find in there btw, many rare shit). But I was shocked and abit sad 2 see Miles Davis' Tutu in that section(the sleeve looks new so looks like whoever bought it didn't give it much of a chance anyway). I remember critics say that MD was soften abit in the 80's period(esp after that LP's release),,,nowadays I hear alot of Jazz cats say that Tutu was the best jazz/funk LP from the 80's. But I still hear some mixed stuff about it.

Now, what do you guys think of this LP? Was it a let-down or a good treat? If so then why?

Holla

definitely not a letdown because
that was the first album that i got
into by miles
(because prince was supposed to have input on it).
i guess if i was a longtime admirer of miles since day 1
i would have been letdown.i guess it's like the same
people who were let down by marvin's "here my dear"
joni's "hissing of summer lawns", stevie's "journey.."
-meaning if years after the letdown and discovered by another generation, they are deemed masterpieces

side note--it's going to be interesting to see what the generations to come will think about prince's work that WE deem god-awful
minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

Cool - another Miles thread!

Tutu is a good album, but like You're Under Arrest (1985), I didn't really like it until I heard the stuff live.

Marcus Miller probably had more input than Miles did on the album (he wrote the songs and played most of the instruments), so as a Miles fan, I always feel somewhat embarressed by Miles taking all the credit, when in fact it is essentially a Marcus Miller album with Miles on trumpet.

The best representation of Miles in the 80s are the two live DVDs (live In Montreal, Live in Munich) and the 20CD box set Complete Live in Montreux.
