BAD.

I'm really starting to like this album!! disbelief

I've always been fond of MJ's other albums but constantly dismissed this one as being too contrived and poppy. But now I hardly go a week without playing some of it. Another Part Of Me is particularly infectious. Damn! mad

Good tune, but I rate Smooth Criminal, Man In The Mirror, Another Part Of Me & The Way You Make Me Feel higher. I really like I Just Can't Stop Loving You as well, but I think Liberian Girl might just have the edge over that one. Not sure.

J edit.

Speed Demon is really infectious, and it wasn't a single either. It's just begging for a re-working 2003 style.

'Streetwalker' on the S.E. fucking rules!

Yeah, it really is a fun, infectious, catchy album. It just lacks some of the variety that makes his other albums so special, that's why it gets dogged on more compared to his other releases.

If you actually look down the tracklisting and think how many hits were spawned from that album, and how there was a movie, and even Speed Demon had a video without being a single... it's more solid and full than most other people's Greatest Hits albums.

I understand how it can leave people cold, but due to my age it was the absolute dog's bollox with my generation at the time.

'Bad' is often dismissed by many people, but I think it's a strong late 80s album. Not as powerful as the two MJ albums that came before it,but it's consistent, alot of fun and there's alot of variety. The funky "Another Part Of Me" and the anthemic "Man In The Mirror" are the highlights."Liberian Girl" is a wonderful slow jam that should have been a single. The album isn't perfect ("Speed Demon" is kinda silly, and the Stevie Wonder duet "Just Good Friends" is surprisingly lackluster),but there are some great gems to be found here.

Whatchu talkin bout, Willis? Bad IS a perfect album, for the simple fact that Speed demon is just a twin to Bad, and you like that one, don't you? And it was just genius to put him w/Stevie. Even if u think the song isn't all that, think of the types of songs him AND Stevie did, as well as music they used at that time. It's perfectly fitting, I think.

You know what's odd? At the time of Bad's release,Stevie Wonder released his own album 'Characters',which contained a killer duet with Michael,"Get It".This song is so much better than "Just Good Friends".As for "Speed Demon",I just never really liked that song. There are a number of MJ songs that sound as if they were written solely for video interpretation (not saying that's necessarily a bad thing). But that song is one of them.

Speed Demon sounds a hell of a lot better on the re-master. It totally breathes new life into it. It's so funky and I love it more than ever

Just Good Friends is the only song I'm not crazy about on the entire album. Rather cheesy. Yeah, I prefer Get It. Check out the 12" version if you see it anywhere. You simply CANNOT get any more 80s biggrin

I quite like Speed Demon anyway. It's just that there's better songs on Bad than that one. If Just Good Friends had been replaced with Streetwalker and Leave Me Alone left off it would be damn near the perfect pop album. But it isn't.

I have always thought Bad was a decent album. The song "Bad" is the only clunker imo. Some of the tunes got way over-played at the time it came out but I don't think it has aged quite as much Thriller has.

But talking about MJs music...I have been listening to Blood on the Dance Floor lately and can't get enough of it. "Is It Scary?" has got me shaking a booty every time I h ear it.

I used yto really LOVE Is It Scary, but Jam & Lewis ruined it IMO. Too loud and noisy. They shouldn't have felt the need to hide his voice like they do Janet's because he can actually sing boxed An acoustic version of that song would be heavenly though.

I'm more of a Morphine gal myself.

U ever heard the DJ Greek's Scary Mix? It's on the "On The Line" Minimax CD. It's more a techno/house mix though, with sparse vocals

It wás a single, with the WORST video ever. I don't think so many famous people ever came together do to such an GODAWFUL, POINTLESS, and the song onworthy video. Every time i think about it, i cannot grasp how INCREDIBBLY STUPID that video was. And yet, MJ is the only one who would ever be able to pull it off.

Bad is one helluva piece, it woulda been the boom diggity if MJ recorded "Would U Love 2 Love Me" biggrin.

Matta o' fact, it was the 1st LP I eva owned from MJ. Funny how the 1st LPs I own from my FAVE artists are not that great in others opinion:

Prince-Rave
Chaka Khan-Come To My House
MJ-Bad

They maybe "weak" 2 others but I loved them simply becoz they introduced me to those people's music nod

Yep. I have Bad and Characters... and I do admit, although I like JGF, Get It is better. And I see a lot of ppl on here don't like Speed Demon, and that's cool. But I love both albums to death! SO to me it really doesn't matter.

I don't even remember that mix. There are so few remixes which I find memorable or worth listening to more than once - not just talking about the cruddy mixes on that BOTDF album, but there are a small handful of really fantastic ones for MJ. I'll dig out that single in a second.

Odd. I think Bad has dated far more than Thriller. Bad has all those very 80's sounding synths on it. The only dated track on Thriller (to my ears at least) is Baby Be Mine. The rest of it still sounds fine.

I agree with you,Cloudbuster. The 'Bad' album sounds really dated, but 'Thriller' is a timeless classic. It still sounds fresh and vital to me."Billie Jean" alone kills anything in the Top 40 right now.

Liberian Girl was a single in Europe (its UK peak was no.13) and I think also in Australia.

As for Ghosts, it's actually been available for a while. Not sure if it's had a DVD release yet, tho'.

I got the Ghosts Box Set in December 1997. Then it was released a few months later by itself on video. I think it only came out in the USA a couple of years ago. I remember being shocked when it went to #1 in the video charts over here. I think that the box set sales weren't elligable or whatever, and when the video was out those initial sales were added on.
